Midweek Fixtures
Division One
Tenby 3 Narberth 4
The Bluebirds built up a substantial lead before Tenby came back with three second half goals. Adi Jones opened the scoring for the visitors after 20 minutes and increased the lead before the interval. For Tenby, Mike Beynon had a good shot saved and Mathew Jones saw his shot just go over the bar. At the start of the second half, Adi Jones completed a deserved hat-trick, but Tenby came back into the game when Ben Brookes scored from a 30-yard strike. Midfielder Grant James picked up the fourth goal for Narberth, before Tenby started their late rally. Substitute Steve Williams found the back of the net after running on to a precision through ball from Jamie Robinson. Although Mike Beynon's penalty attempt for Tenby was saved, Ben Brookes followed up to score from the second ball and the scoreline reflected the performance of both teams on the evening. Narberth 1 Camrose 3
A depleted Narberth team held the visitors during the first half and took the lead through a penalty by Jason Jones. In the second half, Camrose held the upper hand and scored three goals as resistance crumbled.
Division Two
Milford Athletic 2 Pendine 1
This was a game which Pendine needed to win to maintain their promotion challenge. However, Athletic took the lead in the first half through West and a goal by McCloud increased the lead before the interval. In the second half, the Seagulls were all over the Milford team and did everything but score. Simon Evans did have a last minute goal, but the visitors should have made more of the chances created.
Saundersfoot Sports 3 Pendine 1
Saundersfoot's win was not quite enough to secure Division Two promotion, but the Seagulls suffered a setback to their own promotion aspirations with this defeat. Pendine made the early running and it was no surprise when the visitors took the lead through a Justin Blewitt goal. A penalty by Rob Beynon levelled the scores and Tom Davies increased the lead quickly with a volleyed shot from a corner. The visitors were hampered when Simon Evans left the field with a head injury. In the second half, there was little to choose between the two teams, but a penalty by Robert Beynon with 15 minutes of the match remaining made sure of the points for Sports.
Reserve Division One
Hakin United 2 Carew 2
The Vikings opened the scoring through Arran Bowles in the first half. Bowles increased the lead with his second goal, but Seb Palin clawed a goal back for the visitors before half-time. After the break, Carew changed their formation to push more players up front. The tactic worked, enabling them to snatch the equaliser. Reserve Division Two
Pendine 2 Manorbier United 3
Manorbier travelled to Pendine in a must-win game to avoid ending bottom of the table. It was an entertaining end of season game and the lead changed hands a number of times, before David Merriman completed a fine hat-trick and got the winning goal in the last 10 minutes for the visitors. The visitors started with purpose and created no less than four chances in the opening 10 minutes, but failed to score. Eventually Manorbier took the lead midway through the first half following a fine run by Merriman, who finished in style. The Seagulls levelled just before the break with a goal by Gareth Kaye. In the second half, a fine shot by David Merriman from long range restored the Manorbier lead. Each side was then awarded a penalty apiece to end the game, with Ashley Eades scoring for Pendine and David Merriman for Manorbier to finish off a star performance. Pendine lost the influential Steven Jones with a head injury, which required stitches.
Lawrenny 2 Saundersfoot Sports 1
Saundersfoot grabbed the lead after 10 minutes when Danny Caine took advantage of a defensive blunder to beat Lawrenny 'keeper Steven Cole. Lawrenny equalised quickly. Mike Howe took a free-kick which was not cleared properly and when the ball was bobbling around in the area, Alun Evans was on hand to blast it into the roof of the net from six yards. Lawrenny got the winner in the second half from a penalty by Mike Howe after Ed Merriman had been fowled chasing a through ball.
Pendine 1 Tenby 9
Jonathan Potter opened the scoring for Pendine, but the visitors had a first half equaliser through Jack Christopher. In the second half, Tenby regrouped and the revised formation proved to be too strong for the Seagulls as Tenby scored another eight goals. Jack Christopher scored four more to bring his match total to five, Jamie Robinson scored twice and the other goals came from Wayne Callan and an own goal.
Saturday Matches
Division One
Narberth 2 Tenby 1
Narberth fielded most of the players who are likely to feature in the senior cup final at Bridge Meadow tomorrow (Saturday). However, Tenby were up for the game and could have won the match if they had made the most of opportunities created. Raff Barnett opened the scoring for the Bluebirds in a match which served up some end-to-end action. After both goalkeepers pulled off some good saves, with Christian Phillips back on duty for the visitors, Mike Beynon levelled the scores before the interval with an excellent finish. At the start of the second half, Mike Beynon had another good shot saved. Tenby's hard work went down the tube when an inadvertent own goal by Perry Broadhurst gave the Bluebirds the spoils. Ben Brookes, David Jones and Jamie Robinson each came close to scoring for the visitors, but the own goal brought the scoring to an end for the afternoon. For Tenby, Christian Phillips played well in goal and Bobby Briers had an excellent game in defence. It was a good team effort by the Narberth players, who were delighted to come through the match unscathed.
Division Two
Haverfordwest County 3 St. Clears 1
The Saints played well in the first half and kept a clean sheet until the interval. Unfortunately, the visitors were unable to score, but a header by Sam Thomas went just over the bar. At the start of the second half, the Saints went ahead when Steve Trevitt rose to meet a cross and headed the ball home. At this stage of the match, the visitors were the better team. However, in the last 15 minutes, County came back strongly. Jason Chapman equalised with a goal in the bottom corner from a low cross and Gary Thomas put the Haverfordwest team in front with a free-kick from the edge of the box. Mathew Fox made the most of a defensive error to score when he ran onto a cross from the right to secure a win for his team. St. Clears competed throughout the match and there were good performances by both Ollie Thomas and Eddie Wiggins in midfield and by Gareth Griffiths at left back.
Kilgetty 2 Prendergast Villa 2
Kilgetty ended their Division Two campaign with a draw at home to Prendergast Villa. Nick Cope put Kilgetty in front after 15 minutes, before Joe John equalised for Villa when he ran onto a cross from the left. Cope was on target again before the break. The goal was set up by Phil Evans, before Cope found the back of the net with a tremendous shot. For most of the second half, Kilgetty were on top. Ollie Griffiths and Craig Hurst both came close to scoring, but somewhat against the run of play, Villa equalised when Michael Ayeyo broke through the offside trap to score. The Kilgetty defenders stopped instead of playing the whistle and paid the penalty for a basic error. Kilgetty continued to press forward, but found the goals elusive. For Kilgetty, Mike Scale and Ollie Griffiths were on top of their game in midfield and Nick Cope was lively up front.
Pendine 3 Solva 1
Pendine gave their promotion hopes a boost with a well-worked win at home against second placed Solva. Although the Seagulls got on top during the first half, the visitors drew first blood when a period of pressure resulted in an own goal by Robert Thomas. Thomas made amends before the break by equalising. In the second half, the Seagulls took the lead with a goal by Robby Waters and Carl Chapman scored the third to keep hopes of promotion alive. For Pendine, there were good performances by Paul Langdon at centre half and Peter Roberts in midfield.
Reserve Division One
Hakin United 2 Kilgetty 2
Barry Ormond gave Kilgetty the lead with a first half penalty and increased the lead when he scored a blinder from 20 yards. The Vikings came back strongly in the second half and reduced the deficit after 25 minutes before getting an equaliser with five minutes of the match remaining. For Kilgetty, Dave Marklew had a good all round game up front.
Reserve Division Two
Lawrenny 1 Neyland 0
Lawrenny were more focused on the match as the visitors arrived in Neyland in celebratory mood having already been promoted. No goals were scored in the second half, but Lawrenny had a late winner when teenager Ben Cole picked up the ball on the halfway line and outpaced the covering defence before finding the back of the net. Cole had a good game generally as a left wing back, his father Andrew was also solid in the back and another Cole, Phil Cole was creative in midfield.
Letterston 1 Pendine 3
Pendine went two goals up in the first half and increased the lead at the start of the second half, but Letterston had a consolation goal five minutes from time. Ashley Eades and Jonathan Potter played well in the centre of midfield for the Seagulls.
Prendergast Villa 4 Manorbier United 3
Manorbier ended their season at Prendergast with a close fought defeat. The visitors started well and were 2-0 up by half-time after the free scoring David Merriman had scored both of the goals. His first goal was a rather scrappy effort, but his second was the result of a fine individual run. The second half saw a comeback from the Villa who scored three goals without reply, with Mathew Baileaux, Anthony Davies and Gareth Richards each finding the back of the net. David Merriman equalised from the penalty spot, but a late goal by Gareth Richards clinched the game for Villa. Spic Reeve and Simon 'Left foot' Bolton played well yet again for the visitors.
