Division One

Carew 1 Narberth 2

Carew had not played for a couple of weeks and it showed as the Bluebirds dominated most of the game and by the end should have scored more goals. From the kick-off, Narberth showed why they are in the Senior Cup final. Richard Nash, in the centre of the park, took control of proceedings and his aerial dominance gave him a distinct advantage. In the first half, Narberth created a lot of chances, but failed to put the ball in the back of the net. Narberth scored after 50 minutes when a long ball over the top was not dealt with in the Carew defence and this allowed Narberth to take the lead through Grant James. The Bluebirds had numerous opportunities to score more goals, but the final shot was never quite on target. The second goal came on 55 minutes when Narberth were awarded a free-kick just inside the Carew half and decided to take it quickly. This move again caught Carew off guard and enabled Raff Barnett to run the ball into the Carew box and past Ian Kerrison in goal. Carew fought back and came close on a few occasions. Richard Bullock was having a great tussle up front with the Narberth defence and won most of the balls that came his way. On 85 minutes he got his reward. When Carew were awarded a free-kick just outside the Narberth box, the ball drifted over the defence and Bullock was there to delicately slot home from close range.

Johnston 0 Tenby 2

Tenby travelled to Johnston looking for at least a point, but overcame the windy conditions to such an extent as to come away with three points. The visitors were on top in the early stages, with David Jones and Mathew Jones both having near misses and at the other end of the field, Lewis Hurlow pulled off some excellent saves in goal. The visitors took the lead after 13 minutes with a direct free-kick from 40 yards by Phil Catlin, who floated the ball in without any player getting a touch. Tenby continued to create chances, with Ben Brooks and Jim Thomas both coming close to scoring. Thomas was such a threat that he was brought down in the box and Bobby Briers converted the penalty to give the visitors the cushion of a two goals lead. By this stage of the game, Tenby were in control and Ben Brooks just shaved the posts shortly before the interval. In the second half, the visitors continued to be on top and to create chances. David Jones had one near miss and towards the end of the game put Mike Beynon in a position to score. Although the ball was placed into the back of the net, the goal was disallowed under the offside rule. It was a good all-round team performance by Tenby, who were in control for most of the match. Teenager Billy Vaughan made a promising debut when he came on as substitute and there were other good performances by Mark Jones, Ben Brooks and Jim Thomas

Narberth 3 Goodwick United 3

Narberth dominated the opening exchanges, but failed to create chances against a young Goodwick team with a strong work ethic. After 30 minutes, the visitors took the lead when Steve Evans headed home a free-kick from eight yards. United increased the lead with a goal from James Dean following a corner kick. It looked to be curtains for the Bluebirds when Goodwick were awarded a penalty after 39 minutes. It was taken by Goodwick 'keeper Karl Woodhouse, but his opposite number Huw Davies pulled off a terrific save. Within two minutes of the second half starting, the Bluebirds fought back when a looping volleyed shot by Richard Nash evaded the clutches of Woodhouse in goal. After 62 minutes, Steve Evans scored his second goal of the match when he picked up a half clearance to restore the two goals advantage to Goodwick. However, Richard Nash picked up the ball on the halfway line and unleashed a superb shot from 25 yards to reduce the deficit. With just four minutes of the match remaining, Narberth got the equaliser when Raff Barnett beat four defenders in a 60-yard run, before crossing the ball to Richard Nash. Nash was prevented from scoring a hat-trick, but Harry Allen was on hand to pick up the partial clearance to level the scores.

Division Two

Kilgetty 3 Fishguard Sports 1

Kilgetty took a step closer to division two survival with a comfortable win at home to Fishguard Sports. Craig Hurst gave Kilgetty the lead after ten minutes. The move started on the right when Anthony Bevan intercepted the ball to feed Nick Cope. After beating a Fishguard player, Cope slipped the ball inside to Hurst who hit a low shot to score. Kilgetty continued to create chances, but Sports equalised when Mike Williams scored following a break down the right. After Nick Cope had a close range header saved, Craig Hurst increased the lead with a goal which he will remember for a long time with a superb shot from just outside the 18-yard box. In the second half, Fishguard came back strongly and enjoyed the feeling of the wind at their backs. However, Kilgetty were equal to the task and solid in defence. With just 20 minutes left, Dai Lewis in goal pulled off a terrific save, which probably turned the game, and a late goal by Geoff Marsh increased the Kilgetty lead. Kilgetty might have scored more goals had it not been for the agility of the Fishguard 'keeper. For Kilgetty, 16-year-old Paul Hodge had an outstanding game at the back, showing both pace and good footballing skills.

Letterston 2 Saundersfoot Sports 9

The Saundersfoot team had the benefit of a very strong wind in the first half and took full advantage by scoring eight goals before the interval. Danny Caine opened the scoring and added three more for good measure before the half-time interval, with other goals being scored by Tom Davies, Jamie Morgan, Scott Davidson and Jason Llama. Letterston could only score one goal in the first half through Robert Couzens. Although the Letterston season is over, as the team will play in division two next season, the players lifted themselves up to come back strongly in the second half. Saundersfoot were held to just one goal, scored by Tom Davies to notch up his 26th of the season, and in reply Letterston scored through Devonald. For Saundersfoot, three 16-year-olds, Danny Harries, in goal, together with Scott Davidson in midfield and substitute Jamie Nicholas at right back, each had good games and if Saundersfoot can achieve promotion, the young players will strengthen the squad for next season.

St. Clears 1 Haverfordwest County 2

Although St Clears went down, the team played well in a close encounter against Haverfordwest County. Despite playing against the wind in the first half, the Saints took the lead with a goal from Jonathon Pearce after 25 minutes. Howard Pickersgill in goal sent a ball up to Sam Thomas on the halfway line. Thomas beat a defender before releasing the ball to Pearson, who managed to deceive the County 'keeper. Striker Sam Thomas came close on a number of occasions in the second half, but two late goals by the visitors in the last 10 minutes gave Haverfordwest County the spoils. Jonathon Pearce and Sam Thomas proved to be a lively duo up front for the Saints, with Dian Glynn and Alec Weston putting in strong performances in midfield. In addition, Gareth Griffiths was solid at the back.

Division Three

Lawrenny 3 Lamphey 0

Lawrenny had the better of this typical end of season game, which was a rather scrappy affair, with regulars missing from both teams. The only goal in the first half came from the boot of Mike Howe from the penalty spot after Howe himself had been brought down inside the box following a clever bit of play. In the second half, Steve Campbell set up a goal for Stefan Jenkins, who finished with a low shot from 15 yards to increase the lead. With a quarter-of-an-hour of the match remaining, a poor clearance from the Lamphey defence was picked up by Phil Cole, who shot from 20 yards into the top corner to complete the scoring. Midfielders Mike Howe, Andrew Thomas and Phil Cole each played prominent parts for Lawrenny, together with Alun Evans at centre half.

Reserve Division Two

Clarbeston Road 6 Saundersfoot Sports 1

Andrew Joseph was the solitary scorer for Sports, who slumped to their 18th defeat of the season away to league leaders Clarbeston Road. Clarbie found the back of the net six times, with both Dai Davies and Sean Price scoring twice, supplemented by strikes from Steve Morris and Anthony Donovan.

Fishguard Sports 3 St. Clears 1

The young St. Clears team were a player short travelling to Fishguard and played against a strong wind in the first half. Not surprisingly, Fishguard dominated the opening exchanges and opened the goal-scoring with a goal from Kevin Kinsella after 15 minutes. Liam Fitzpatrick came close to scoring for the Saints, but a goal by Gareth Sullivan aided by a deflection from the St. Clears 'keeper increased the lead for Sports before half-time. In the second half, the young Saints players did quite well with the wind at their backs and created a couple of chances. When Liam Fitzpatrick handled the ball accidentally, Kevin Kinsella scored from the penalty spot to increase the lead for Sports, but Simon Bancroft picked up a consolation goal for the Saints. It was a good team effort, with three young players, Emyr Lewis in midfield, together with Dafydd Page and Bobby Webb at the back, each putting in noteworthy performances for the Saints..

Lawrenny 2 Solva 1

This was a good result for Lawrenny against a team who are placed higher in the league table. Lawrenny had the benefit of the elements in the first half and opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a goal from Jonathon Beff. James Buckle fed the ball to Beth, who sold a dummy to the Solva 'keeper before putting the ball into an empty net. In many ways, the visitors played the better football, but tended to be over-complicated in their moves. Ian Jenkins increased the lead when he side-footed the ball home from close range following a partial clearance. In the second half, Solva made the most of the wind and kept Lawrenny pegged inside their own half for most of the time. With five minutes remaining, John Brown finished off a big passing movement with a well-judged header in the best move of the game, but Lawrenny held on to their slender one goal advantage to pick up the points. Sean Allen in midfield created numerous opportunities and Steven Cole had a solid game in goal for Lawrenny.

Neyland 4 Manorbier 3

Manorbier lost their first match in four when they travelled to play against a Neyland team positioned considerably higher up the league table and it is to their credit that they pushed them so hard. In fact, it was the visitors who took the lead when neat control from Morgan was followed by an instinctive shot into the bottom corner. Despite dominating possession in the first half, Manorbier were unable to increase the lead and as is the case often in football, it was Neyland who came back into the game to level the scores before half-time. The home team got on top in the second half and scored four goals through Wayne Parry, who scored two, Brian Mathias and Geraint Mathias, without conceding a goal in reply. The visitors came back into action with two late goals from Ade Atwell, with a clean strike, and Thorne from a powerful run, but the late rally was not quite enough to gain a point from this match. Nevertheless, the team's determination and fitness were positives to take from this match.
