Division One

Hakin United 2 Carew 3

On the back of three straight defeats Carew travelled to Hakin looking over their shoulders anxiously but slightly eased their relegation fears as a determined performance yielded an invaluable win. Carew skipper Paul Bullock said after the match, " A good headline for the Observer on Friday would be ' Carew stun Hakin with Wayne's Cannon'! Daryl John and Seb Paling were brought into the starting line-up by Carew manager Gerald Hicks. At first both teams found it difficult to play football with a strong diagonal wind. The Vikings coped better and took the lead after 15 minutes when Aaron Bowles raced onto a through ball and chipped the ball over Ian Kerrison. The Rooks did not lie down and equalised within minutes. Following good work by Wayne Cannon, his teasing cross was met by the deftest of touches by Paul Bullock to bring parity to the score line. The Vikings pressed hard to regain the lead but the visitors almost scored again when a shot by Wayne Cannon was saved with an excellent dive by Hakin's keeper Nigel Salter. Although Carew became more resolute at the start of the second half the Vikings regained the lead with a swift counter-attack after 65 minutes when Scott Davies swept the ball home. The Rooks did not lie down and the equaliser came with just ten minutes left on the clock. An in swinging corner from Richard Bullock flew straight into the top corner despite the attempt by substitute keeper Gary Dawes to clear from underneath his own crossbar. Both teams hungered for a win in the closing stages and just when it looked as though the game would end all square Cannon unleashed his thunderbolt of volley, which gave the Hakin keeper no chance as it crashed into the top corner. Referee Chris Stapleton blew the final whistle, much to the delight of the travelling contingent. The young Viking team was perhaps a little unfortunate but many of the Carew players will remember plenty of last minute heartbreaks at the Observer Field and celebrated their vital victory, which was the first for many a year.

Narberth 3 Johnston 0

Narberth warmed up for their forthcoming senior cup semi-final with a comprehensive win over bottom placed Johnston. A strong wind made it difficult for both sides, and the home side were not their fluent self. Still, a win is a win and with such an important fixture coming up, manager Barry Walters was a happy man: "The wind spoil it as a spectacle, it was a scrappy game for all who saw it but it was the result which mattered and it was a good work out for the semi- final." Matthew Lloyd got the ball rolling with a superb finish into the back of the net after a delightful cross by the impressive Harry Allen. Marc Hughes was the next to score with a powerful finish from outside the box after Adi Jones delivered a pinpoint corner from the left. Although the Bluebirds were only 2-0 up at half time, the writing was already on the wall for the visitors as they hardly created a chance. Narberth finally put the game to bed with a goal on 80 minutes when Raff Barnett did his bit to beat the keeper. Few further chances were fashioned as the game came to a close and that would have disappointed Walters, although he was delighted to grab the points.

Neyland 4 Tenby 0

Tenby had the benefit of the wind during the first half, which got stronger as the game progressed. The visitors were creative but goal-scoring opportunities went a begging despite the close efforts at various stages of the first half by Jack Christopher, Mark James and Mike Beynon who had four near misses with one shot being cleared off the line. Neyland held sway after the break and took a quick lead with a shot by Paul Hannon from eight yards. Within minutes Adi Moore increased the lead with a lob into the box, which bounced over the head of the advancing Christian Phillips in goal. The Neyland lead was extended with goals by Lyndon Frayling and Craig Power. Although Tenby were strong in the first half the visitors were unable to recover from being two goals down within minutes of the start of the second half. Neyland made better use of the wind and Tenby failed to capitalise on their chances despite their aggressive play. There were good performances for Tenby by Jack Christopher, Anthony Griffiths, Ben Brookes, Mark James and Bobby Briers.

Division Two

Haverfordwest County 3 Pendine 0

Pendine went down to a sorry defeat away at Haverfordwest County with an inept performance which manager Justin Blewitt described as 'lazy.' After a superb away win at Solva a fortnight ago and with high hopes of promotion into division one next season, Pendine would have been confident of a win. County had other ideas though and put the visitors to the sword. Paul Jenkins slipped one past Adam Clapperton for the opener, while Matthew Ellis grabbed the others to make it 3-0 before the break. Blewitt was down about the result but still has his sights set on a place with the big boys next year: "There's still a lot to play for this season. That was a poor result, but we've got games in hand over other teams and we can definitely do it. But we'll have to play better than that."

Milford Athletic 1 Kilgetty 0

Kilgetty went down to a narrow away defeat at Milford Athletic losing three valuable points in the process. It was a difficult game for the visitors especially considering they had to make a couple of last minute adjustments to their team and the defeat will have done nothing to help their confidence ahead of next week's six point showdown against fellow division two strugglers, Pembroke United. Barry Ormond had a couple of chances in the first half to put his team ahead but just failed to find his range, while Nick Cope almost snatched a win with a shot late into the game. A draw was looking the likely result when on 75 minutes Clifford Davidson nipped in to steal a win for his team that sank the hearts of the Kilgetty 11.

Pembroke Boro 1 St Clears 0

Lady luck avoided St Clears on Saturday as they went down to a 1-0 defeat away at Pembroke Boro. The visitors conceded a goal scored by Lee Gilpin after 15 minutes during which time they created plenty of opportunities but failed to put them away. It could have been worse for the Saints had Howard Pickersgill not saved a first half penalty, a save that on reflection perked up his team. After the break St Clears asserted themselves more with Eddie Wiggins, Ollie Thomas and Hywel Griffiths all going close. Ron Crotty also impressed for the away team and showed good skill up front but he just couldn't find his range on the day.

Hubberston 1 Saundersfoot Sports 1 Saundersfoot Sports and Hubberston are neck and neck in the top six of division two and there was not much between the teams in this match. Both teams were missing some regular players, but if anything Saundersfoot had the slight edge in the first half. Hubberston took the lead after 30 minutes through Jeff Smith who finished off a good run with a shot in the top corner. Danny Caine equalised for Sports after a terrific run down the left and he cut inside to score from a tight angle. In the second half it was stalemate with neither team being able to size the advantage and in many respects a draw was a fair result. Sixteen years old Scott Davidson was promoted from the seconds and had an excellent game on the right wing for Saundersfoot.

Division Three

Manorbier United 2 Haverfordwest Cricket Club 1

Manorbier entertained Haverfordwest Cricket Club for the third time this season and were pleased to record a win in this mid table fixture. On a crisp afternoon at the Sports field Manorbier played well and deserved the three points for the win. Several half chances were created by the Manorbier players before they took the lead midway through the first half with a well-taken goal. Striker Michael Ryder latched on to a through ball beat one defender and then slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. In the second half there was more of the same with the Manorbier defence looking comfortable. The ageless Paul Maytum controlled the air and Ashley Murdoch was outstanding along side him. Manorbier increased the lead with their second goal from Michael Ryder with a similar finish to his first effort. The Cricketers picked up a late consolation goal through Dai Davies. In midfield skipper Sam Reeve and left footed Maestro Simon Bolton both had very effective games for Manorbier.

St. David's City 3 Lawrenny 1

This was not a very good performance by the Lawrenny team in a game where the strong wind held the upper hand in each half. The visitors had wind advantage in the first half and took the lead after ten minutes. Steve Lewis picked up a long ball and flicked the ball through to Kim Harland who found the back of the net in the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Lawrenny continued to create chances but failed to make the City keeper work in goal by squandering these chances. The visitors paid the penalty in the second half when in contrast City scored three times by making the most of chances created. After ten minutes Gary Jenkins levelled the score with a looping header from a goalmouth scramble. Five minutes later another scramble followed a failure by Lawrenny to clear the line and Gareth Morris headed the ball home in the bottom corner. Although Lawrenny continued to create the odd chance a shot by Brian Gildea went just over the bar and the chip shot by Steve Lewis was saved by the City keeper. City added salt to the Lawrenny wounds with their third goal, which ironically came from a counter- attack when the visitors were in with a shout of levelling the scores. St Davids seized the initiative and David Price picked up their third goal to complete a miserable afternoon for the Lawrenny players.

Reserve Division One

Carew 2 Hakin United 2

This reserve division one mid table battle ended all square after both teams had scored twice. A depleted Carew team had wind advantage in the first half but it was the Vikings who drew first blood with a goal from Andrew Charnley which was created out of nothing and finished when Charnley tapped the ball in from close range. Because of the strong wind the match turned out to be a midfield battle but Carew equalised through Jamie Roberts who managed to retain possession of the ball when surrounded by a melee of bodies in the box. In the second half a penalty by Lee Watkins put the Rooks ahead but in the dying embers of the match the Vikings drew level through Andrew Devonald from a corner kick which just drifted into the back of the net. In the circumstances Carew did well with so many players missing but created enough chances to win. David Lewis had an excellent game in midfield for Carew and his experience rubbed off on players around him.

Camrose 2 Narberth 4

Narberth's reserve came away from Camrose with a superb result against a team brimming full of experience. Nigel Williams grabbed the first before Adi Howarth pulled one back leaving it all square at the interval. After the break however, Gary Hughes' men really turned it on. Peter Phillips nabbed the second before Chris O'Connell made it 3-1 with a shot from over 20 yards. Howarth pulled another one back for the home side before Williams secured his brace and a win for his team.

Kilgetty 1 Milford Athletic 3

Milford Athletic's second string made sure of a club double over Kilgetty with an emphatic win. To be fair to the home side though, they were playing with a make shift side with a number of the regulars being forced to play for the firsts. The first half remained goal less with few chances created on either side, but straight after the break, Kilgetty were dealt a killer blow when the visitors went ahead after 60 seconds of the re-start. A defensive lapse made it 2-0 soon after before Ben Hughes grabbed one back after a goalmouth melee. But a fairytale come back was not to be as the Athletic made it 3-1 close to the final whistle. Daniel Lewis, Barry Fruman and Liam Nubold each scored for he Athletic.

Reserve Division Two

Saundersfoot Sports 4 Fishguard Sports 3

Saundersfoot Sports who lie in 13th position in the reserve division two table had a morale boosting win at home to Fishguard Sports who are fifth in the table. It was a hard fought game but Saundersfoot grasped the initiative right at the end of the match with a goal by Andrew Joseph. Player manager Andrew Spencer opened the scoring after ten minutes for Saundersfoot but the visitors equalised through Rhodri Raymond and then took the lead with a strike by Kevin Kinsella, Saundersfoot clawed a goal back through Jason Llama to draw level before the interval. At the start of the second half Andrew Joseph regained the lead for Saundersfoot but in a ding dong struggle Fishguard equalised again with a goal from Jonathon Hunt. Saundersfoot continued to battle as they had done throughout the match and were eventually rewarded with a winning goal scored by Andrew Joseph. Saundersfoot were short of players and struggled to field a team on the day but everyone who played gave a hundred per cent. Jason Llama was outstanding in midfield for Saundersfoot and there were solid performances at the back from Mo Kershaw, Stevie Smith and Andrew Davies. St Clears 4 Hubberston 3

St Clears won an epic match at home against Hubberston in a seven-goal thriller. The visitors dominated the first half and scored three goals through Martin Thomas and Gareth Thomas that should have put the game beyond doubt. But the Saints had other ideas. John James pulled one back minutes after the re-start while James Carnell quickly put them just one goal behind. Soon after he added another to put the scores level with a draw looking a likely result but just before the final whistle, the Saints pushed forward one last time and nabbed the win thanks to an own goal by an opposition defender.

Pendine 1 Solva 3

Pendine went down to a home defeat against Solva losing 1-3. The visitors were too strong in all departments for the home side and ran them ragged all afternoon scoring three goals in the process. The home team's only goal came from Paul Bevan, but it was too little too late for his team.

Tenby 9 Prendergast Villa 0

After a disappointing performance last week Tenby bounced back with an emphatic win over a depleted Prendergast Villa team. Sonny Phillips opened the scoring after 15 minutes and goals followed thick and fast as Tenby built up a lead of six goals at the interval. Three more goals were added in the second half to round of a convincing team performances during which Tenby converted pressure into points. The team nature of the performance is reflected in the spread of goal scorers. Sonny Phillips brought his tally to two with both David Jones and Jamie Robinson also claiming a brace of goals. The other three goal scorers were Stuart Adams, Mike Cackett and Luke Askew. Villa were unable to score any goals in reply. Tenby team manager Lee Simmons was clearly delighted with the result. Speaking after the match he said," It was great to get back on track with a big win admittingly against a depleted Villa team. We still have our sights on promotion but realistically in order to achieve promotion we must win our remaining fixtures. Clarbeston Road are way out in front at the top of Reserve Division Two with Tenby, Hubberston and Neyland each in with a shout of promotion. Our fate is in our hands and we must pull out all of the stops. Next Saturday at home to Neyland and the following week when we are up against the league leaders Clarbeston Road".

Lawrenny 5 Manorbier United 2

When a club has to field two teams with only 21 players available something has to give and the visitors travelled to Lawrenny with just ten players. Lawrenny were on top form and it soon became one-way traffic despite the brave performance by the Manorbier players under the circumstances. A header by Paul Edwards from a corner put Lawrenny ahead and the experienced Barry Phillips increased the lead with the second goal of the first half. At the start of the second half Barry Phillips picked up his second goal when he was in position to receive the ball after Tom Lewis had broken down the left before crossing the ball into the box. Paul Edwards also scored his second goal, which was a carbon copy of the first goal and this time Edwards received the cross from Paul Brookes. The scoring was completed by Sion Allen with a terrific individual effort. Allen broke down the right and beat three defenders before placing the ball into the bottom corner. For the visitors John McKeown in defence together with James Nicholas and Gavin Evans in midfield deserved credit for their efforts. For Lawrenny Andrew Cole senior playing his first game for a couple of months featured strongly in midfield and Alun Evans played well at centre half.
