Division One

Goodwick United 1 Tenby 1

The players of both teams enjoyed playing football on a good surface during the first half. The visitors kept their shape and discipline, play was very even and the quality of the football entertaining. Tenby defended well and mounted a series of attacks, but neither 'keeper had much action before the interval. During the second half, Tenby got the upper hand and the action really stepped up during the last 20 minutes. Scott Smith had a good run down the right for the visitors to set up a chance for Steve Hanlon who shot just wide. Ryan Lawrence also came close to scoring for Tenby, before Scott Smith opened the goal account after 78 minutes when he broke the deadlock after receiving a great ball from Jimmy Thomas. After scoring the first goal, Smith came close to adding to his score, but Goodwick managed to draw level five minutes from the end when Rob Couzens found the back of the net with a shot from the edge of the box after the visitors failed to clear the ball cleanly. The Tenby players clicked on Saturday, everyone gave a hundred per cent and the players played for each other. In view of the quality of the Tenby performance, Goodwick were a little lucky to get a point and their 'keeper deserves credit for keeping them in the game.

Monkton Swifts 3 Narberth 2

In a ding dong tussle, both teams produced excellent football in an enthralling contest. The Bluebirds took the lead after five minutes with a good finish by Raff Barnett in a one-on-one situation. Within seven minutes, Swifts had drawn level with a header from Peter Jennings. Two minutes later, Monkton scored again when Lee Jones gave Narberth goalkeeper Huw Davies no chance of saving the shot. For a while, the Bluebirds were on the back foot as Swifts had six consecutive corners on the trot, but eventually the Bluebirds broke away and just before half-time David Gillard took the ball around the Swifts' 'keeper to equalise after being set up by Raff Barnett. In the second half, the Bluebirds had the bulk of possession, but could not score. In contrast, the Monkton team only had two chances to score. Huw Davies pulled off a brilliant save to prevent a goal from the first chance, but from the other, Steve Davies scored what turned out to be the winner for Swifts after 70 minutes when the Bluebirds failed to clear. The Bluebirds came back, piled on the pressure, but the only real chance created was when Richard Nash shaved the posts. Once again Grant James was outstanding in midfield for Narberth, Jason Jones together with Richard Henton worked hard at the back and David Gillard looked threatening up front.

St. Ishmaels 5 Carew 1

Carew travelled to St. Ishmaels with a depleted team, as a number of players were attending the wedding of Robert Scourfield. The visitors needed a good start, but unfortunately conceded two early goals, the first from a free-kick which resulted in a header by Mark Devonald hitting the back of the net. Carew had a couple of chances in the first half which were not taken, but the visitors did prevent Tish from scoring any further goals. At the start of the second half, Carew fought back, but another defensive error resulted in the third goal for Tish, before Sean Gelona drew a player and shot form 25 yards to beat the Tish 'keeper. For a while, Carew were in control, but were unable to turn the pressure into goals. During the last 10 minutes, Tish broke away twice to score and the final scoreline gives a slightly distorted picture of the game as a whole. Mark Devonald was influential in midfield for St. Ishmaels. For the visitors, Tommy Wright and Carl Wainwright battled well up front. Haydn Shapcott put in some nice crosses and Mathew Phillips made a number of excellent saves in goal.

Division Two

Hundleton 6 Kilgetty 3

This match was a lot tighter than the score suggests, but Kilgetty lost because they conceded too many simple goals. Hundleton took a lead of three goals by half-time, with one goal coming after two minutes and the other two in the last five minutes before the interval, which effectively killed off the Kilgetty challenge. After the opening goal, the visitors held Hundleton for a while. Andrew Simms came close to scoring and Nicky Cope hit the bar with a shot from 30 yards. At the other end, Adam Hughes showed superb reaction in goal to pull off a brilliant save when dealing with a dangerous overhead kick. At the start of the second half, Hundleton increased the lead, before Gavin Britton netted at the far post for Kilgetty after a break by Anthony Bevan down the left. Hundleton added two more goals, including one from the penalty spot, before Kilgetty came back with a goal from Darren Rossiter after a good run by Anthony Bevan. Nicky Cope gave glimpses of what might have been with a brilliant shot from 40 yards when he hit the ball first time over the top of the 'keeper's head to pick up the third goal for the visitors. Kilgetty have a young side who need a win to kick-start the season. The spirit is there and the break will come. Pendine 2 Pembroke United 1

Robbie Waters opened the scoring for the Seagulls, before Lawrence Rogers equalised for United. However, Carl Chapman regained the lead for the Pendine team when Robbie Waters picked up a long ball and crossed to Chapman who hit an excellent shot from just inside the box. In the second half, Pendine created many chances, but the only chance taken was the goal scored by Lee Waters. Justin Blewitt swept up cleanly for the Seagulls.

Saundersfoot Sports 2 Milford Athletic 2

Goals by Tom Davies and James Morgan were cancelled out by the two goals scored by the visitors. Nevertheless, Saundersfoot have made a promising start to the season, with 10 points from four games, and are among the Division Two pacesetters in fourth position in the table. St. Clears 3 Prendergast Villa 2

The Saints made rather hard work of this win, despite creating numerous chances. St. Clears dominated most of the match, but the Saints' players were guilty of snatching at the ball which prevented them from finishing in a clinical manner. The only goal in the first half came from Sam Thomas for St. Clears after 10 minutes. At the start of the second half, Eddie Wiggins increased the lead, but Prendergast Villa reduced the deficit with a goal by Joe John from the penalty spot. Within minutes, St. Clears were awarded a penalty, which Eddie Wiggins converted, but Villa came back again to score in the last five minutes with a goal through James Skudder. For the Saints, Alec Weston controlled things in midfield, Stephen Phillips defended coolly at the back, Eddie Wiggins and Sam Thomas were a lively pair up front, while Howard 'Bruff' Pickersgill had a good game in goal.

Division Three

Haverfordwest CC 4 Lawrenny 3

Both James Buckle and Steve Lewis missed out on scoring opportunities during the first five minutes and this set the pattern of play for the visitors who produced a below par performance on the day. However, Steve Lewis did open the scoring for Lawrenny with a low shot to the corner, before Stephen Phillips equalised for the Haverfordwest team when he took advantage of a defensive error. The Cricketers increased the lead when David Davies scored from a corner and then Lawrenny levelled the scores more or less straight from the kick-off. The visitors passed the ball cleanly, the Haverfordwest players could not touch the ball until Kim Harland's shot was saved by the 'keeper. Harland was on hand to net the ball from the rebound. During the closing stages of the first half, Hugh Griffiths was concussed playing for Lawrenny and claimed he had double vision when he conceded a penalty. David Davies took the spot kick to nudge the Cricketers in front once again. In the second half, Mathew Vaughan took advantage of a defensive error to increase the lead for the Haverfordwest team and the only other goal of the second half came from a header by Steve Lewis after 25 minutes when he ran onto a cross from James Buckle.

Reserve Division One

Carew 2 Goodwick United 2

The wedding of the respected Carew all-round sportsman Robert Scourfield meant that a depleted Carew side would need to step up to the mark if they were to challenge the ever-strong Goodwick team. There was a determined start by both teams as they battled hard in the opening exchanges. The deadlock was broken when in the 20th minute, and from an unlikely source, Seb Palin laid the back to Eddie Beynon who struck the ball first time. 'It's in' was heard from the terraces and indeed it was, as the ball floated past the 'keeper into the corner of the net. It was only the skill of stand-in Carew 'keeper Lee Watkins who kept the home team in the lead at the interval. The team talk at half-time focused on Goodwick upping their game and coming out strong, and true to form they did not disappoint. Shortly after the whistle, the scores were brought even when some untidy defending led to a free-kick outside the Carew box. A beautifully struck ball left Watkins no chance as Nick Rowlands levelled the scores. Tactical substitutions saw the appearance of substitutes Marc Roberts, Ben Cole, and Isaac Colquhoun for Carew. It was not long before Goodwick were getting the better of the tussle. With the Carew defence floundering, it was the Goodwick strike force making inroads and from the edge of the box the ball was neatly taken down by Steve Lewis and dispatched with a decisive volley. With the visitors in the lead, Carew needed to dig deep. They never gave up, with Neil Morgan and Jamie Robberts showing their metal in midfield. New signing Wayne Cannon, who showed great promise all through the game, ran from the wing beating the offside trap, which had served Goowick so faithfully during the game, slotting the ball past the Goodwick 'keeper to give Carew a share of the points. The scoreline remained 2-2, and on reflection was a fair result. It will be left to selection to see who will be pushing for places in 'Harkie's' first teams tomorrow!

Kilgetty 0 Camrose 6

Kilgetty conceded two goals in the first half and when Camrose increased the lead early in the second half the Kilgetty challenge wilted and the visitors eventually brought their tally to six. It was a dismal day for the Kilgetty team, with no bright spark on the horizon. Adi Howarth and Marcus Taylor both scored twice for Camrose, with the other goals being scored by Gareth Williams and Eddie Cahill.

Narberth 2 Herbrandston 1

Narberth struggled for much of the match, but eventually won and were relieved to pick up the points. Adi Jones played in goal for Narberth in this match, as Narberth played with a changed team so that Chris O'Connell partnered Jamie Bradfield up front. Shortly before the break, Jonathan Jones scored the first goal of the match to give the Bluebirds the lead when he hooked the ball into the back of the net from a goalmouth scramble which followed a corner. During the first half, although the Bluebirds were not at their best, the visitors rarely looked like scoring. In the second half, Herbie equalised. The Bluebirds pressed hard for the winning goal, which came from a corner. Marc Hughes headed the ball on and Gavin Smith was on hand to nod the ball into the back of the net.

Reserve Division Two

Lawrenny 1 Hundleton 0

Lawrenny picked up their third win in four matches so that skipper Jonathan Cole thinks his team are on a bit of a roll. Realistically he said, "It was not an action-packed game and Hundleton made most of the running. "However, we defended well and Hundleton did not cause us any real problems, as there was no end produce from their possession." It was nil-all at half-time and the Lawrenny goal came late in the second half when the home team hit the visitors on the break. Tom Lewis crossed the ball from the right. Hundleton failed to clear and the ball landed at the feet of Simon Webb, who hooked it home. Lawrenny goalkeeper Steven Cole only had one genuine save to make throughout the match. For Lawrenny, Damian Arthur and Simon Webb combined well in midfield, with Will Morris and Alun Evans both having strong games at the back.

Manorbier United 2 Pembroke Boro 0

This was a much-improved performance by Manorbier United which led them to achieving their first league win of the season. Manorbier had most of the possession in the first half, but were unable to score despite creating several chances. In the second half, United were rewarded with a goal midway through the period from the head of the free-scoring Paul Maytum, who positioned himself well to take advantage of a good cross from a corner. The scoring was completed by Adam Thorne, who was outstanding throughout the match and capped a fine display with a brilliant individual goal. For Manorbier, Ashley Murdock played well on the left wing, while new manager Shaun Lees was delighted with the team's first win of the season. Prendergast Villa 4 Pendine 1

Villa had the edge in this match and deserved to win after successful strikes by Anthony Davies, Ben Turnbull, Gareth Richards and Mark Cross. Stephen Thomas had a consolation second half goal for the Seagulls. For the visitors, Mark Doble played well in defence and goalkeeper John Roberts kept the number of goals down and pulled off a great save from a penalty in the second half.

Solva 4 St. Clears 3

This was a close contest which Solva just about deserved to win. Simon Bancroft gave the Saints the lead in the first half, but Solva equalised before the interval. St. Clears started strongly in the second half and forced Solva to concede an own goal from a corner. Simon Bancroft picked up his second goal to increase the lead, but then the Saints laid back as they thought that the game was over. They paid the penalty when Solva scored twice to equalise and then stand-in goalkeeper Daniel Thomas had no chance to save a ball which was chipped over his head to give Solva the winner. For the Saints, Jamie Goodyear and Oliver Thomas both had good games in midfield.

Tenby 5 Saundersfoot Sports 0

The seaside local derby resulted in a win for Tenby, who led by two goals at the interval, with both goals being scored by David Jones. The first 20 minutes were quite close and the visitors played well, but they suffered a blow when Rhys Hunt was injured early on in the game. Mark Reed pulled off some good saves in goal for Tenby whenever the visitors created scoring opportunities. Two quick goals in the second half finished off Sports' challenge and the goals were scored by Mathew Broadhurst and Sonny Pillips. Towards the end of the game, David Jones completed an excellent hat-trick for Tenby. Tenby's fitness was crucial in the second half. The players train twice a week and concentrate on fitness during their Monday training sessions and the hard work is beginning to pay off. It was a good team effort by Tenby, with Sonny Phillips playing well on the left side of midfield, while striker Paul Evans created chances for the players around him. He used his experience wisely and was nominated players' player of the match after the final whistle. Manager Lee Simmons came on as a super sub in the second half and came close to scoring. For the visitors, 16-year-old Danny Harries made his debut and played well in goal despite the scoreline. Mike Cornick was solid at the back, while both Andrew Hughes and Andrew Rees played well in midfield.
