Division One Merlins Bridge 1 Narberth 4

The Bluebirds started the season with an emphatic away win, despite being without four key players. Adi Jones gave the visitors the lead when he volleyed home a cross from David Gillard, but the Bridge bounced back and equalised through Lee Gilpin from a counter-attack initiated after a rebound from a Narberth free-kick. However, shortly before the interval, the visitors regained the lead when David Gillard scored after Grant James had cut through the Bridge defence. In the second half, more superb creative play by Grant James resulted in Narberth extending the lead with a far-post header by David Gillard and Grant James completed an awesome second half display with a volley from 35 yards to score the fourth goal for the visitors. It was a cracking all round team performance, with no obvious weak link on the night.

Monkton Swifts 0 Carew 0

Carew travelled to the away match against Monkton Swifts without Daryl John and Carl Wainwright, both of whom were unavailable. However, two teenagers, Rob Whitfield and Ollie Morgan, were given the opportunity to play and made an impression up front in their baptism of fire. Carew played with a formation of five in the middle and three at the back and as a result the Swifts were unable to penetrate the Carew defence, with Adam Chandler and Keiron Stone playing soundly at the back. In the second half, the Swifts came at Carew in the early stages, but gradually the challenge wilted. When play moved to the other end of the field, both Haydn Shapcott and Chris Stone came close to scoring, but the Monkton goalkeeper pulled off some great saves. Although Carew might have snatched a late winner, in the end the visitors had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Pembroke Boro 4 Kilgetty 1

Both teams failed to score during an even first half, although chances were created but not taken. At the start of the second half, play continued to be fairly even, but Boro took advantage of a failure to clear a long ball when Mathew Davies opened the scoring. Tom Baldry extended the lead from a free-kick, before Geoff Marsh clawed a goal back for the visitors when he pounced on a defender, won the ball and scored with a great strike from the corner of the 18-yard box. However, Boro eventually shook free of the shackles and a goal by Neil Lewis in the bottom corner followed by Tom Baldry's second goal killed off the game as a contest. For Kilgetty, Mike Scale and Geoff Marsh both worked hard in midfield.

Division Two

Saundersfoot Sports 3 Hundleton 5

Eight goals were scored at Saundersfoot, but the visitors Hundleton came out on top with two strikes from Jamie Hind supplemented by goals from Jamie Stanley, Lee Lavelle and Rob Jones. Although Tom Davies scored twice for the Sports and James Morgan once, it was not enough to get the Saundersfoot team back in the game.

St. Clears 1 Pendine 1

In the local derby at St. Clears, no goals were scored in the first half, but Eddie Wiggins put the Saints in front with a second half penalty. However, with 15 minutes of the match remaining, Mathew Court levelled the scores for the Seagulls. Pendine defended well generally and the two strikers, Lee Waters and Robbie Waters, formed a lively duo up front.

Division Three

Manorbier United 2 Lamphey 0

Manorbier United came out on top with two goals from Paul Maytum, although Lamphey competed throughout the match.

Reserve Division One

Carew 2 Monkton Swifts 5

Carew were two goals down after the first half-an- hour following goals by Steve Davies and Robert Stanley for the Swifts. New signing Jamie Roberts, who has joined the club from St. Florence, finished off a good passing move from midfield by beating the Swifts goalie in a one- on-one situation. A penalty by Dean Busby gave the visitors a lead of two goals at the interval. At the start of the second half, Carl Wainwright pulled a goal back for Carew when he rounded the Swifts' 'keeper, but two goals by Steve Davies and Robin Stanley ensured that the visitors would pick up the points. Generally it was a below par Carew performance, but the visitors fielded an extremely strong team.

Kilgetty 1 Pennar Robins 1

Kilgetty started well and Mike Lewis gave the home team the lead after 15 minutes when he rounded a defender to tap the ball into the back of the net. Shortly afterwards, Lewis was injured and the visitors had the better of the remainder of the half. In the second half, Kilgetty applied pressure and looked comfortable, but in the last minute, James Coburn chased a long ball and the Kilgetty defenders conceded a penalty, which Coburn converted. Although it was a little galling to concede such a late equaliser, upon reflection a draw was probably a fair result. As the Kilgetty squad has been reduced this season, a number of former players agreed to help the club out, with Mike Lewis and Joe Williams featuring well up front until the injury to Lewis, Neil Proctor did well behind the front two, Dean Rossiter was lively in midfield, with Dave Barklew and Ian Lewis solid in defence.

Narberth 2 Hakin United 7

A depleted Bluebirds team had no answer to the striking power of the Vikings and conceded five goals in the first half and two more in the second. Gavin Smith scored for the Bluebirds in the first half and Jamie Bradfield came out of goal in the second half and scored the second goal of the match for Narberth. For the visitors, both Ball and Fawcett netted hat- tricks, backed up by a goal from Jackson.

Reserve Division Two

Lawrenny 4 Clarbeston Road 2

Playing in his first game for Lawrenny, James Brown put his team in front after just two minutes when he curled the ball around the 'keeper into the top right-hand corner. Lawrenny were on top in the early stages and Mike Howe forced the Clarbie 'keeper to pull off a good save in a one-on-one situation. Gradually Clarbie came back into the match and equalised five minutes before half-time. In the second half, the visitors dominated play for the first 30 minutes and had their just reward to go into the lead. Lawrenny introduced some fresh legs midway through the second half, with players such as David McBean making an impact, and in the last 15 minutes scored three goals, each of which came indirectly from a failure to clear a corner kick. James Brown equalised with a side flick, Ian Jenkins nudged Lawrenny in front and to complete a fine debut, James Brown scored for the third time to put the result beyond doubt.

Pendine 0 St. Clears 5

Midweek matches can create problems for player availability and the Seagulls were unable to field a full side in this local derby. Although Pendine defended well in the first half, the floodgates opened in the second and the Saints were clear-cut winners in the end by five goals. Daniel Steele opened the scoring after 10 minutes and with five minutes of the first half remaining, James Carnell had a terrific run from midfield and beat a number of Pendine players before scoring. In the second half, both Carnell and Steele picked up their second goals, Carnell from long range and Steele from close range. The Saints continued to pile on the pressure and Simon Bancroft made it five with the last goal of the match. For St. Clears, goalkeeper James Owen pulled off some good saves and Anthony Howells was a tower of strength at the back. Tenby 10 Pembroke Boro 2

Tenby started the reserve division two campaign with a bang, knocking in 10 goals at home to Pembroke Boro and conceding just two goals in reply. David Jones completed a hat-trick and added another goal for good measure, Jack Christopher and Stuart McClaren each scored twice, with the other goals being scored by Simon Ferrier and Mathew Jones. The two Boro goals were scored by Chris Styles and Peter Leech.
