Division One
Narberth 3 Saundersfoot Sports 0
After suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Narberth at Saundersfoot the previous week, the visitors put in a much-improved performance on Saturday at Narberth. Nevertheless, the Bluebirds could have scored more than three goals, as a lot of chances were created which were not put away. After 27 minutes, Wayne Howells gave the Bluebirds the lead when he side-footed the ball home after Marc Hughes had run down the left before crossing the ball to Howells. The goal not only put the Bluebirds in the lead, but also settled the team down and five minutes later Raff Barnett was too fast for the Saundersfoot defenders. Barnett ran on to a precision pass of 30 yards by Richard Henton, which resulted in Barnett lobbing the 'keeper to increase the lead. In the second half, Saundersfoot had two excellent chances to level the score. Darren Umanee put James Caine into space, but Huw Evans made a brilliant save to prevent Caine's shot finding the back of the net. Stephen Ruff also had a one-on-one opportunity, but his shot went over the bar. Saundersfoot defended well in the second half, but with 20 minutes of the match remaining, Richard Nash moved wide on the right and cut inside before scoring the third goal for the Bluebirds. Narberth made a number of substitutions in the second half, with Paul Phillips coming on for David Gillard, Robbie Brooks for Marc Hughes and Mathew Lloyd for Jonathan Jones. Sixteen-year-old Robbie Brooks made a number of good runs down the left to trouble the Saundersfoot defence. Huw Davies made a welcome return between the sticks for the Bluebirds. Saundersfoot manager John Watkins was delighted at the way the team played and the performances by Peter Rattenbury, Daniel Caine, Jason Llama, Stephen Ruff, James Caine and Simon Cole typified the spirit and resolve within the squad.
Carew 1 Herbrandston 0
Carew managed to win this match without being on top of that game. In the opening stages, Herbie created a number of good chances, but were prevented from taking the lead when Carew 'keeper Ian Kerrison pulled off some fine saves. Sam Goodwin gave the home team the lead after 25 minutes. Although a corner by Huw Neale was cleared, Neale picked up the ball again and crossed it back into the box where Carl Wainwright managed to squirm the ball through for Goodwin to find the back of the net in the top corner. The rest of the half was a physical midfield battle and Carew could count themselves a little lucky to be one up at the interval. In the second half, Herbie came at Carew, but Carew defended well. Skipper Daryl John pulled off two goal-saving tackles, Martin Scourfield used his head to keep one ball out, Ian Kerrison kept pulling off good saves and Neil Morgan was solid at the back. The visitors did have a goal disallowed and in the last five minutes of the match Carew were forced to clear their line once again. This time the home team mounted a counter-attack as Herbie had pushed everybody forward. Huw Neale had a glorious chance to score after being put through by Brian Hall, but missed out on an open goal.
Pennar Robins 4 Kilgetty 1
Kilgetty started poorly and generally had an off day, with the Robins playing better football throughout. The Pennar team was quicker to the ball, although the visitors took the lead somewhat against the run of play. The move started with a long throw from Duane Reynolds, which was flicked on by Bobby Bevan for Mike Beynon to score with a header. Shortly afterwards, Beynon had a goal disallowed for offside and they were the only two real chances created by Kilgetty throughout the match. With five minutes of the first half remaining, Daniel Scourfield equalised for the Robins, who took the lead immediately upon the restart when a defensive error allowed James Stuart to score. Ten minutes later, Ben Nicholas extended the lead when the Kilgetty defence was caught in possession and from that point it was all over for the visitors. Kilgetty suffered a further setback when Russell Evans was sent off when he received a second yellow card. Altogether there were nine bookings in the match, which was not an ill-tempered affair. With 10 minutes of the match remaining, any lingering doubt about the result was removed when Luke Reynolds scored the fourth goal for Pennar Robins with an own goal. Jason Bridges worked hard up front for the visitors and Russell Evans played well in midfield before being sent-off. Kilgetty must stop losing possession, particularly in defence, and improve their passing to start moving up the Division One table, although the performance at Pennar Robins showed more commitment than in the previous week. Kilgetty were without key players such as Grant James, Mike Scale, Geoff Marsh and Darren Taylor, but have sufficient strength in depth within the squad to play with more consistency.
Neyland 3 Tenby 4
As the scoreline suggested, this was a cracking game. Gideon Hochin gave Neyland the lead, but the visitors fought back with a header from Ben Brooks. Both teams created chances, with Dennis Creswell going close for Tenby. Creswell has continued to confirm his promise and improves with every game. On the stroke of half-time, Gideon Hochin picked up his second goal to put Neyland in front. At the start of the second half, the visitors had a good move initiated by James Thomas with the boys up front, which ended when Thomas was brought down in the penalty area. Tenby's appeal for a penalty failed to elicit a response and when Neyland counter-attacked, Hochin completed his hat-trick. Tenby showed plenty of spirit to get back into the game. The deficit was reduced when James Thomas scored with a half-volley indirectly from a corner taken by Ryan Lawrence. Shortly afterwards, Lawrence equalised with a shot into the corner from inside the box. The visitors continued to exert pressure and were eventually rewarded when Jack Christopher picked up a winner with a left-footed shot from inside the box. It was a good team effort by Tenby and the result will have put the Seasiders back on course. Tenby defended well, with Ben Brooks solid at centre half, as was Luke Askew at the back. Perry Broadhurst was constructive in midfield and Steve Hanlon showed some Beckhamesque qualities with some of his set play moves.
Division Two
Solva 1 Pendine 0
The Seagulls travelled to Solva without Justin Blewitt and a number of other influential players. It was a hard fought game and the result could have gone either way. Teenager Mathew Court came close to scoring a couple of times early in the second half, but towards the end of the game a number of Pendine players were injured and were substituted. Just when it looked as if the game would end in a draw, Solva scored at the death through Richard Bland. For Pendine, Mathew Court had an excellent game on the right-hand side of midfield and Chris Hastings was a steadying influence at right-back.
St. Clears 3 H'west County 1
St. Clears have moved one place up the division two table following their comfortable win against the visitors from Haverfordwest County. Two goals by Sam Thomas and one by Mark Snelling gave the Saints the points and County had a consolation goal through James Green.
Division Three
Pembroke United 3 Lawrenny 1
Lawrenny contrived to lose this match, despite being one-nil up with 20 minutes of the match remaining. United appeared to be inspired after being reduced to 10 men, Lawrenny ran out of a bit of steam and three defensive mistakes proved costly when the superior fitness of the young United team enabled them to nip in for three goals in the closing stages of the match. Kim Harland had put Lawrenny in front in the first half, but United stole the advantage in the closing stages of the game with two goals by Wayne Boswell and one by Paul Sly. Lawrenny's John Fuller had to leave the field through injury after the first five minutes and until the closing stages everyone in the Lawrenny team played reasonably well, with Kim Harland and Brian Gildea both being prominent.
Templeton 0 Hundleton 2
Templeton were outclassed in this match, despite preventing the visitors from scoring until the last 10 minutes. Hundleton pressurised the Templeton defence from the start, although Templeton withstood the pressure initially and most of the first half was fairly even. Just before the interval, the visitors had a player sent-off. Gradually, Hundleton wore down the Templeton resistance and goals by Joe Lewis and Palmer in the last 10 minutes gave the visitors a deserved win. Speaking after the match, Templeton manager Nigel Thomas said: "Although it was a lacklustre performance by the Templeton team, Hundleton are certainly the strongest team that we have played this season."
Angle 2 Manorbier United 3
In this top of the table clash, all of the goal action came in the first half. Angle caught Manorbier on the hop to score twice in the first 10 minutes through Gavin Wickland and Simon Lewis. After 25 minutes, the visitors 'turned up' when a cross to the middle was met by Ben Hall who skipped past three defenders to bury a low drive inside the near post. Ten minutes later, United equalised following a period of sustained pressure when Chris Thompson slammed the ball home from 10 yards when he received the ball from a corner. The visitors continued to attack and were rewarded just before half-time when Chris Thompson picked up his second goal of the match with a cheeky back-heel shot. The second half was stalemate, with play being fairly even, although both teams had chances to score. United worked hard and held on to their lead to retain their top of the table spot. For Manorbier, Sam Reeves had an excellent game in midfield and James Nicholas was solid in defence.
Reserve Division One
Kilgetty 0 Pennar Robins 3
Pennar Robins had the double over Kilgetty on the day when the reserve team won by three clear goals at Kilgetty. The first half was dominated by the Robins, although Kilgetty did create a couple of chances from free-kicks and once Barry Ormond broke down the right only to shoot the ball over the bar. The Pennar team failed to take most of the chances created, but on the stroke of half-time were given the lead by Gareth Stuart. In the second half, the lead was extended by Donohue, but Kilgetty started to get a bit more of the play. Barry Ormond and Nick Cope both hit the bar and if these shots had found the back of the net it would have put Kilgetty back in contention. However, with 10 minutes of the match remaining, a break down the right resulted in Griffiths picking up the third goal for the visitors. Generally throughout the match Pennar Robins did not give Kilgetty much chance to play and the visitors were quicker to the ball.
Herbrandston 3 Carew 0
Despite fielding a reasonable team, Carew failed to perform in this match, with the notable exception of Mathew Phillips in goal who pulled off some tremendous saves. Ironically, after one such save, Herbie took the lead. Phillips made a quite brilliant double save to prevent a goal, before conceding a corner. Unfortunately, from the resultant corner, a header from Tristan Plunkett to the far post put Herbie in front. The lead was extended when Carew lost possession after taking a quick throw-in. Herbie pushed forward and a long ball over the top found Leigh Galdo who scored. At the start of the second half, Galdo picked up his second goal of the match when he ran on to another long ball. Carew continued to create the odd chance, especially after making a few positional changes, but the visitors were let down by the quality of their finishing which will have to improve. In contrast, Herbie battled throughout and their hard work was justified by the result.
Saundersfoot Sports 0 Narberth 9
Reserve division one leaders Narberth were too strong for the bottom club Saundersfoot on the day and had a lead of five goals by the interval. James Bennett opened the scoring for the visitors from inside the box. Adi Jones and Peter Phillips then got their names on the scoresheet by scoring a brace each. In the early stages of the second half, Sports resisted strongly, but eventually the Bluebirds broke through for Peter Phillips to complete his hat-trick. Shortly afterwards, Adi Jones brought his personal tally to four with two goals and the final goal was scored by James Bennett. Peter Phillips and Adi Jones formed a lethal striking partnership for the Bluebirds. Tenby 0 Hakin United 5
This game was virtually over after the first five minutes when Hakin scored three goals. Andrew Charnley scored twice and Adam Bayjoo scored the other goal. Tenby managed to stem the flow and no more goals were scored in the first half. In the second half, the Seasiders made a few positional changes and played a lot better, but Charnley and Bayjoo each added one goal to their first half tally to bring the total of goals scored by the visitors to five. The Vikings are a very good side and showed why they have a hundred per cent record this season, although Tenby put up a spirited display. Mo Sofan played well for Tenby at centre-half and Nathan John, making his debut, proved to be a lively striker.
Reserve Division Two
Lawrenny 2 St. Clears 5
Lawrenny started strongly, but started to lose energy and as a result, the quality of their passing suffered. In contrast, the Saints produced their best football of the season and were in control by the end of the first half after scoring three goals. The first came from a Lawrenny own goal, the second was scored by James Carnell and third by Steve Aston. At the start of the second half, Lawrenny came at the Saints, but suffered a setback when Steve Aston tapped the ball in to extend the lead for the visitors. Lawrenny made some changes and scored two goals in quick succession. Wayne James scored the first when he picked up a cross from Steven James on the right and an excellent individual effort by Mike Howe secured the second goal for Lawrenny. The Saints started to become a little rattled, but came back into the game with a vengeance when Steve Aston completed a fine hat-trick with a well-struck volley. For the visitors, James Carnell stood out in midfield and the finishing by Steve Aston was exemplary. For Lawrenny, there were good performances by Mike Howe and Simon Webb.
Manorbier United 1 Milford United 3
The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes with a close range shot and after 35 minutes increased their lead. However, the Manorbier team struck back when Rob Sawyer scored directly from a corner just before half-time. In the second half, Manorbier tried in vain to equalise, but were unable to score despite their efforts. Second placed in the table, Milford United scored their third goal 15 minutes before the final whistle to put the result of the game beyond doubt. For Manorbier, James Hall worked hard up front, as did Gavin Evans in midfield.
Pendine 5 Solva 3
Eight goals were scored in this reserve division two clash at Pendine with the Seagulls coming out on top. Huw Jones, Rob Chalmers and Meredith George scored for the visitors. However, a brace of goals by both Steven Jones and Robbie Waters, supplemented by a goal from Robert Thomas, gave the Seagulls the edge.
