A number of matches were postponed because of the heavy rain over the previous two days and on Saturday morning, but several clubs battled on despite the inclement weather across the area.
Division One
Hakin United 3 Tenby 2
Tenby pushed Hakin United all the way at The Observatory Field, despite the loss after 43 minutes of Luke Askew, shown the mandatory red card for deliberate hand ball in the box before ace striker Paul Jones slotted the resultant penalty to nudge Hakin into a 1-0 interval lead. Jones scored a second after 55 minutes as he was on hand to touch the ball home - and the Vikings seemed to have nicely wrapped up another win when defender Nigel Armstrong strode up at a set-piece and headed home a third home goal. But Tenby showed the battling qualities that must have pleased manager Peter Thomas as they pulled a goal back after 75 minutes when a shot was deflected past his own 'keeper by Hakin skipper Gary Dawes. Then Jack Christopher broke clear to beat Jason Morgan with a well-placed shot and Hakin were forced to play out time so that they could take their victory - and leave Tenby considering that with a little more rub of the green they might just have snatched a point.
Goodwick United 4 Saundersfoot Sports 3
The Sports came within inches of gaining at least a draw against high-flying Goodwick United on a heavy Phoenix Park pitch, but Jason Bridges was unable to find the net from either chance and home manager Shaun O'Connor was mightily relieved as he praised the Saundersfoot performance afterwards. The home side took the lead after 10 minutes when sweeper Steve Blackford floated in a header from which James Dean's glancing header found the net. But back came the Sports with a penalty from Bridges five minutes later. Daniel Williams scored the Goodwick second goal when he stole in at the far post, but a Rob Hughes own goal after 35 minutes made sure that Saundersfoot were all-square at two-all at the break. It took Goodwick until the 75th minute to break down the Sports' defence again when their man-of-the-match Nigel Delaney cut through from midfield and rifled his shot home - and they seemed to have made the game safe when Adam Raymond was up-ended in the box and Rob Hughes atoned for his earlier own goal from the penalty spot. But Saundersfoot managed to claw their way back and Jamie Morgan glanced a header past Carl Woodhouse from a Peter Rattenbury free-kick. Then came those late chances for Bridges, but Woodhouse saved both shots to give his side the points when Johnny Watkins's team deserved a share of the spoils.
Monkton Swifts 3 Carew 2
Carew played really well at Monkton Lane and were good value for their 2-1 interval lead as they took play to the current league champions, only to concede the equaliser in the last 10 minutes and allow the Swifts to snatch the verdict in the dying seconds as veteran finisher Ian Rome enjoyed a simple tap-in after a good run by co-striker Stephen Davies and an unselfish pass across the face of the goal when Davies was well-placed to have a shot himself but realised his partner was better placed. Davies had opened the scoring for the Swifts after eight minutes from close range, but 10 minutes later James Buckle equalised for Carew as he capitalised on a goalkeeping error by Craig Reardon. After 36 minutes, Buckle put Carew ahead with a sensational diving header which flew into the top corner of the net from a cross by Haydn Shapcott. And that is the way the score stayed until the 81st minute, when young midfielder Lee Jones, who was the Swifts' man-of-the-match, scored a good goal from the edge of the box - and Rome snatched the three points for the home side with his late, late goal.
Division Two
Clarbeston Road 0 St. Clears 6
A splendid hat-trick by Ron Cottey helped St. Clears gain a very convincing win at Clarbeston Road as the Saints took a four-goal advantage into half-time and were always in control despite the typically gritty efforts of the 'Clarbie' players on a very wet pitch. Jonathan Pearson made a good save in each half for St. Clears and they were strong at the back as Craig Weston swept alongside central defender Mark Snelling. Gareth Griffiths was also heavily involved on the right side of midfield and Cottey scored two goals in the first period as Paul Edwards also curled in a shot to the top corner of the net from the edge of the area. Eddie Wiggins also got his name on the first-half score sheet and also added a second after the interval as Cottey struck for a third time to give the Saints a cracking win as reward for a whole-team effort that would have delighted player/manager Edwards.
Division Three
Angle 3 Templeton 4
There were goals galore at Angle as visiting Templeton found themselves a goal behind in the first minute, took a 4-1 lead after only 35 minutes and were only a goal in front at the break. As Templeton manager Nigel 'Tommy' Thomas said afterwards: "If play had continued at that pace we would have finished with a rugby score!" But although there was action aplenty after the break there was no further scoring and Templeton took the honours after Jamie Bradfield had scored their first two goals, the first with a one-on-one shot that beat the home 'keeper and the second from a rare header. Chris O'Connor also found the target after five neat touches from the back had given him the space and Wayne Scourfield slotted the penalty after O'Connell had been tripped in the area. For Angle, Paul Thompson had put them ahead before Templeton had time to blink and he also added another alongside Gavin Wickland in this exciting seven-goal thriller where Templeton did well to come out on top.
Manorbier 1 St. Florence 3
St. Florence won their local derby at Manorbier, despite conceding the lead to an early goal from Austin John which found the net through a veritable forest of legs. They fought back with two first-half goals by Mark O'Sullivan, the first a left-foot cracker from 25 yards and the second with his right foot to show his ability to score goals. Stuart Scott added the decisive third goal after half-time as Charlie Cowley had a smashing game at the back, leaving manager Ian Smith delighted with this win over their neighbours.
Reserve Division One
Pennar Robins 1 Narberth 7
Narberth gained a comprehensive victory over Pennar Robins on an excellent playing surface at Bush Camp, although they started very slowly and were a goal down after the first quarter as Brian Probert beat their offside trap and scored an opportunist goal. This reverse seemed to give Narberth just the wake-up call they needed and they were a goal ahead at the interval as midfielder Robbie Brooks fired home and then man-of-the-match Adi Jones added a second. In the second half, it was all Narberth as they scored a further five goals without reply, the first coming from 16-year-old Harry Allen, who cut inside from the right to fire in a good shot. Adi Jones grabbed his second, before veteran striker Peter Phillips made it 5-1, with James Bennett and Dean Evans rounding off the scoring and bringing a smile to the taciturn face of manager Nigel Scourfield!
