Sir,
I hope locals will, indeed, support the Mayor's front page plea to support local shops, as, speaking personally, I would be absolutely lost without them.
Personal service, after sales care and a face I can put a name to, are my top priorities.
Too many friendly family firms have already gone. I have fond memories of the time I enthusiastically emulsioned walls and glossed doors in my newly-acquired cottage, always with the helpful advice given by Trevor Hallett, of Clarice paint shop.
Mr. Hilling, of Hilling and Allen, is still sorely missed, as every piece of electrical equipment I have was purchased at his shop, where I was always greeted like an old friend.
Fortunately, The Jazz Radio is now helping fill this void and it is to this small shop I will be turning for guidance as the time approaches for me to replace the television set I bought at The Jazz 25 years ago with a new digital set.
Being at least 20 years behind in technical advances, I need personal help with this transition, not a huge showroom with hundreds of models and not an assistant in sight.
So, it certainly came as a great relief to find personal service at Phonescope in Upper Frog Street when my mobile phone gave up the ghost, probably from being so little used. The intricacies of the new phone were carefully and patiently explained and I was told I must not hesitate to return as often as I wanted should any queries or problems arise.
As far as I am concerned, I certainly need my local shops as much as they need me.
Just image Tenby without T.P.'s...
Barbara Stredder,
Tenby.
