Four young local riders recently did well in the 2008 Pembrokeshire Show Jumping Winter Series. The series is made up of monthly competitions held at Moor Farm, near Haverfordwest. Six-year-old Amy Birchmore from Thomas Chapel, and seven-year-old Emma Morgan from Cresselly, both competed in the Mini-Minimus Class (under 10s) throughout the winter going double clear every month. The girls were therefore both awarded medals at the prize-giving for coming joint first. Emma, along with Jodie Cole from Minwear, also competed in the Minimus class for the under 11s. At the end of the series, both girls had gone double clear for four out of the six months and were lying in joint first place along with last year's reserve champion Rhianna Evans. There was therefore an exciting jump off against the clock to decide the championship - Rhianna, who is a member of the 10 years and under Welsh Show Jumping Team, was the first to go and went clear in a very fast time on her pony 'Oh So Cool'. Jodie was next to go and rode 'Mr Chips' as fast as possible, but unfortunately she was unable to beat Rhianna's time. Finally, it was Emma's turn who also went clear on 'Trigger', but again she couldn't come close to Rhianna. In the end, 'Trigger' narrowly beat 'Chips' by under two seconds and therefore Jodie came third in the series, Emma was reserve champion and Rhianna champion. Last year's Minimus Champion was Emma's sister Anna riding 'Lluest Melody', however, this year, riding 'Able Mable' in the Juniors (under 17s), Anna was leading the overall series. Unfortunately, in the final competition, Anna was narrowly overtaken by Hannah Lawrence on 'Just Red', and Sarah Llewellyn on 'Brave Warlord', who became joint champions. Anna finished the series just behind them in third place in both the Junior Series, and the Combined Junior and Senior Championship. This was a big achievement for 11-year-old Anna in her first year in Juniors.
