An innovative mobile ticketing system is being expanded to Pembrokeshire rail passengers after it was used for just under 400,000 journeys on ATW services during the first 12 months of its launch on the Cardiff and Valleys network.
Rail passengers across the Arriva Trains Wales network will be able to benefit from the cost savings available by using the award-winning Mobile Multi-flex ticket - the first mobile ticketing system of its kind in the UK.
Since its trial on the Cardiff and Valleys routes in 2015, more than 67,000 customers have downloaded the App and have made over 360,000 journeys using the innovative ticket to date.
Now available on all main commuter routes (where ATW sets the fare), Mobile-multi flex tickets allow customers to make a saving of up to 16 per cent in comparison to the price of selected day return tickets when buying the 12 journey Multi-flex product.
Tickets can be bought to travel between any two places (six in each direction), and can be stored on a smartphone for up to three months after the date of purchase.
The ticketing system is particularly beneficial to part-time and flexitime commuters who use the train intermittently or for any occasional train travel needs such as attending sporting events.
Tickets must be purchased through the free ATW Tickets app, which is available to download through all smartphone platforms. Once downloaded, Multi-flex tickets are then available to purchase anytime, anywhere as long as data signal from the mobile phone service or Wi-Fi provider is available.
In September, the ATW Tickets app was upgraded to allow passengers to buy long distance journey Advance mTickets on their smartphones for journeys across Wales and into areas of England.
Lynne Milligan, customer services director for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “After the success of the Mobile Multi-flex ticket system along the Cardiff and Valleys lines, it was an easy choice to roll the multi-flex tickets out across our wider network.”
