The Young Farmers Club's movement is part of a worldwide network of youth groups located in rural areas variously known as young farmers, future farmers or 4H, but the majority of whom today have no direct link with agriculture.

Each has a common cause to encourage and support young people as they mostly pursue or continue careers in agriculture, the rural environment or its related fields.

Local clubs - not least in this area - are linked to county federations and a national body which creates a variety of spheres for it's members to interact with others of similar interests.

Those involved are passionate about and committed creating and enhancing a rural sector that has a tradition for providing exciting and rewarding career paths for young people who are both highly skilled and motivated.

The highlight of the year comes at the end of the winter programme as each county has it's annual rally - an Open Day for family and friends with a full programme of practical and fun events and competitions.

Despite adverse weather conditions in the morning there was again excellent support for the 63rd Pembrokeshire Rally held at the County Agricultural Showground, near Haverfordwest, last Saturday, attended by farmers leaders, county council officials and civic dignitaries.

For their hardwork and commitment, federation chairman, Mark Davies, of Clynderwen, thanked not only the members but the countless parents, leaders and helpers who had put in so much time and effort to ensure the continued success of a memorable day for everyone.

YFC organising secretary for the county, Mrs. Dill Williams, commented that there was evidence that the training given in preparation for the rally ensured that the members benefited fully from learning new skills and crafts.

The Rally Queen, Angharad Rees, Brawdy. was attended by Rachel Lawrence, also of Brawdy club, Ros Bushell, Llysyfran, Libby Henderson, Martletwy. and Rachel Hughes, South Pembrokeshire.

Overall worthy winners of the challenge shield were again Llysyfran Club, with Clynderwen as runners- up. Third and fourth respectively were, as last year, Eglwyswrw and Keyston.
