A leading Pembrokeshire craft business will once again be contributing to the prestigious National Park Award competition by producing slate plaques to be presented as prizes.
Richard and Fran Boultbee of The Slate Workshop at Llangolman, near Clunderwen have been commissioned by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to create the 2002 award, following the success of using the slate plaque award in 2000.
Made mainly from green Pembrokeshire slate, the hand-made plaque will carry the Razorbill emblem of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
The Slate Workshop, opened in 1985 and working entirely with Welsh slate, has developed a reputation for high quality craftsmanship coupled with innovative design.
Fran Boultbee, of the Slate Workshop explained: "We are very pleased to be working with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority once again to produce the 2002 National Park Award. Being involved in a project which values the importance of utilising local industry and produce - as we do at The Slate Workshop - is a tremendous honour."
Through the award, the National Park Authority has the opportunity to mark its gratitude to the many people and organisations who carry out projects which support the Park's purposes. The scheme also attempts to ensure that their efforts and caring attitude towards the Park environment receive greater public recognition.
Judging will take place in four categories - conservation or enhancement of the built environment, conservation or enhancement of the rural environment; promotion of public enjoyment and understanding of the Park, and promotion of cultural conservation and socio-economic wellbeing of the local community.
Councillor Gordon Cawood, Chairman of the Park Authority, said: "The award itself is a fundamental part of the competition, and we are delighted to be working again with the Slate Workshop to produce this year's prizes. The Park takes great pride in supporting local business, and we hope that the plaque award will help raise the profile of the National Park Award still further, and encourage a wide range of applications for us to consider in 2002."
