Mrs. Pam Mortimer from Saundersfoot branch is pictured receiving her award from Ian Baker at the RNLI's regional conference at the Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea, last Thursday. These awards emanate from the council (the charity's trustees) and recognise long and loyal service to the institution.

Pam has been a member of the Saundersfoot branch since 1989. Having served in various roles, she is currently chair/souvenir secretary - posts she has held since 2000. Her hard work has earned her a well-deserved bronze badge.

• The RNLI is a registered charity which had provided the lifeboat service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland since 1824, and is recognised as one of the most efficient lifeboat services in the world. There are over 230 lifeboat stations and last year their lifeboats launched over 8,000 times, rescuing over 7,800 people, an average of 21 a day. Around the coast of Wales there were just over 1,000 launches, with a similar number of people being rescued; the busiest stations were Tenby and Beaumaris. Since the RNLI was founded, its lifeboats have saved over 136,000 lives.
