Postponed matches

Unfortunately, a number of matches were postponed due to a combination of pitch and weather conditions.

Saundersfoot Sports were unable to play their Senior Cup third round fixture at Milford United. In Division One, Carew's home match with Pennar Robins and Narberth's game at Herbrandston were called off, while in Division Two there was no play at either Kilgetty or Pendine where the matches against Hubberston and Lawrenny were postponed for the same reasons.

The footballers of Pendine had a double blow as their away match at Lawrenny in Reserve Division Two also fell foul of pitch and weather conditions.

Division One

Solva 2 Tenby 1

Both teams found it difficult to play football in the strong wind and heavy conditions. With ball control being so much of a lottery, neither side created any clear-cut chances in the first half.

For the first half-an-hour of the second half, the visitors were on top. Anthony Griffiths got the ball into the back of the net for Tenby, but the 'goal' was disallowed. As well as being denied the goal, Tenby were later disappointed that an appeal for a penalty went against them.

To compound matters, Solva broke away to score through Ben Jones and then extended the lead with a free-kick from Luke Phillips near the corner flag which went into the back of the net with the assistance of a gust of wind.

Ryan Lawrence did have the consolation of scoring the only goal for Tenby. For once he was not used as a super sub, but played from the start and he scored the final goal of the match when he lobbed the 'keeper from outside the box in spectacular fashion.

Division Two

Manorbier United 2 Clarbeston Road 3

Manorbier were unlucky not to get a point from this excellent game between two commited teams.

James Hall gave United the lead when he tapped the ball in from close range after Paul Maytum had flicked the ball on with his head from a free-kick.

However, Clarbie equalised before half-time towards the end of an all action first half.

Manorbier struck quickly at the start of the second half, with a great goal into the top corner by James Hall. The visitors equalised again and picked up the winner with 15 minutes of the match remaining.

Manorbier fought back in an attempt to pick up at least one point. James Hall and Paul Maytum, who both had cracking games, came tantalisingly close to scoring, but United were unable to draw the scores level.

Pembroke Boro 2

St. Clears 1

The Saints had the better of the proceedings in the first half, but an inability to finish cost the visitors dearly as Boro established a lead of two goals scored by Chris Macleod and Michael Ledger.

In the second half, the Saints continued to create chances, but only one was taken when Sam Thomas scored after just 10 minutes of the second half.

Eddie Wiggins went close with a header, Sam Thomas shot just over the bar and a shot by Steve Trivett hit the cross-bar. However, the visitors were unable to get the ball into the back of the net again and returned to St. Clears pointless.

Wayne John made an impression when he came on as a second half substitute, Mark Snelling worked hard at centre half and Diean Glynn ran his socks off in midfield.

Division Three

St. David's City 2

St. Florence United 4

City took the lead after 10 minutes with a goal from Richard Davies, but the Saints equalised just before half-time through Jeff Evans.

Unfortunately for the visitors, Scott Smith received a facial injury and was taken to Withybush Hospital for treatment and he was replaced by Mark Roberts.

In the second half, Mathew Jones put the Saints in front from the penalty spot and his goal was followed up by a goal from James Knight.

City fought back with a goal from Simon Thornton, but with five minutes of the match remaining Mathew Jones picked up his second goal of the game to clinch an excellent win for the visitors.

St. David's had a player sent off shortly before the final whistle, but it did not affect the final outcome of the match.

It was a committed team performance by the St. Florence players, for whom Mathew Jones was outstanding in midfield.

Haverfordwest County 1

Templeton 1

There was little to choose between the two teams in a very even contest. A defensive misunderstanding allowed County to nip in for the goal after 25 minutes to take the lead through Nigel Jenkins. However, an excellent run by Jamie Bradfield down the left enabled him to cut inside and deceive the 'keeper with a difficult shot.

After equalising, the visitors kept up the pressure, but were unable to find the back of the net again in the first half.

In the second half, both teams competed well, but no one was able to break the deadlock, with the result that no further goals were scored in the match.

For Templeton, Chris Frierson worked hard in midfield, Joe Philbin had a solid game at centre half and Jason Oatley had another outstanding match between the sticks.

Reserve Division One

Pennar Robins 1 Carew 2

Nathan Hughes put Carew in front after 20 minutes with an excellent shot into the bottom corner. For the remainder of the half, neither side was able to convert a chance into a goal, until five minutes before the interval when James Stewart equalised for the Robins with a quality header from a free-kick.

In the second half, the visitors had a slight edge and had the winner following a free-kick by Hugh Brock. The Robins' 'keeper found it difficult to take the ball cleanly and Steven Keating was on hand to tap the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Carew goalkeeper Mathew Phillips had another good all-round game. Not only did he pull off some cracking saves, but he dealt with the high ball cleanly and safely under pressure.

In addition, Nathan Hughes put in a number of telling runs up front and took his first half goal well.

Narberth 6 HerbranDston 1

The Bluebirds had a commanding win over the visitors from Herbrandston and were in goal-scoring mode during both halves of the match.

The first goal came from an own goal and had an element of farce. A defender headed the ball out during a Narberth attack, but the ball hit one of his team-mates and rebounded over the line.

Peter Frank equalised for Herbie, but Chris O'Connell soon regained the lead for the Bluebirds after being put through by Peter Phillips.

A header by Adrian Jones from a cross by James Bennett gave the Bluebirds a lead of two goals at the break.

In the second half, it was the Peter Phillips show as the prolific goal scorer completed a fine hat-trick with some great finishing. Each time he latched on to a through ball provided each time either by Nigel Williams or Adrian Jones.

For Narberth, Nigel Thomas was sound in goal and Phillip Scourfield steady in defence.

Adrian Howells, Nigel Williams and James Bennett had good all-round games in midfield and the finishing of Peter Phillips was of the highest quality.

Saundersfoot Sports 6 Prendergast Villa 3

Sports took some time to settle down as a unit and Villa applied the early pressure. The visitors were rewarded with a goal from Gary Thomas after 15 minutes, followed quickly by another from Jonathon Blockwell in a goalmouth scramble.

Gradually the Saundersfoot players picked themselves up, with Gary Cunningham and Barry Phillips striking-up a useful partnership up front.

Following a combination between the two players, Phillips reduced the deficit and then after another joint effort Cunningham shot from 25 yards. Although the ball was parried by the 'keeper, Barry Phillips was on hand to tap the ball home.

Villa bounced back quickly and scored more or less from the kick-off when Adrian Harries was on target.

Following a half-time pep talk from player manager Mike Cornick, all of the Saundersfoot players responded. Robert Jones equalised after five minutes.

Cunnungham and Phillips continued to create problems up front and Phillips completed his hat-trick again after combining with Cunningham.

Mike Cornick then got into the act in his first game of the season, when he went up for a corner taken by Gary Cunningham and scored with a first-time volley after being fed by Richard Haynes.

Robert Jones completed the scoring for Saundersfoot following a run down the right.

For Sports, Steve Smith was strong in defence and apart from the Cunningham and Phillips partnership, there were other good performances by Gary Thomas, Jonathon Blockwell and Adrian Harries.

Tenby 4 Kilgetty 4

This local derby produced the best from the footballers of both teams who pulled out all of the stops in an entertaining and pulsating game.

Tenby took an early lead after a break down the right when young striker Liam Robson nudged the Seasiders in front with a cracking header.

Following good work by player manager Andrew Cope and Jamie Morgan, Kilgetty drew level when Duane Rossiter followed up to score after the initial shot by Andrew Cope was saved by Lewis Hurlow.

Tenby regained the lead when Jimmy Cowan took advantage of a defensive error, while Kilgetty almost drew level again, with both Andrew Cole and Jamie Morgan going close to scoring.

Liam Robson has established a reputation for scoring goals this season and the young striker completed a hat-trick before the interval, the first with a superb solo run and the second just before half-time.

Trailing by four goals to one, Kilgetty appeared out of it, but fought back strongly in the second half. As the game went on, Kilgetty mounted a number of attacks and put Tenby under immense pressure. Tim Scale and Andrew Simms both came very close to pulling a goal back for the visitors, but the turning point came with 20 minutes of the match remaining.

Kilgetty were awarded a penalty and Jamie Morgan made no mistake when he found the corner of the net. Five minutes later, Morgan popped up again to score his second goal, this time with a free-kick from 30 yards.

The visitors were well supported as Kilgetty's first team match had been called off at home to Hubberston.

In a tense finish, Kilgetty managed to equalise when Tim Scale got behind the defence and slid the ball past the 'keeper to level the scores at four goals each.

It was a good team effort by both teams, with Jamie Morgan and Anthony Bevan standing out in the Kilgetty ranks. For Tenby young goal keeper Lewis Hurlow had an excellent game whilst Liam Robson was like a western sharpshooter up front.

Reserve Division Two

St. Clears 3 Pembroke Boro 0

Both teams displayed some nice touches in an excellent game. As no goals had been scored in the first 40 minutes, Jonathan Pearson put the visitors in front with a header from a cross by Daniel Steele before the interval.

In the second half, the Saints found the back of the net on two more occasions and surprisingly both goals also came from headers to make it a unique treble.

Andrew McCabe was perfectly positioned to head home a cross from a corner by James Carnell and then Jonathan Pearson picked up his second goal of the match when he headed home a cross from Daniel Thomas.

Jonathan Pierce gave the Saints attack that cutting edge with his two goals, Mel Lewis looked the part in the middle of the park and goalkeeper Stephen Willoughby-Evans pulled off two cracking saves to deny Boro a goal in the second half.
