Senior Cup Third Round

Carew1

Milford Athletic 0

Carew played some nice football in the first half, but the visitors created more chances to score. However, Carew goalkeeper Ian Kerrison pulled off a number of excellent saves.

Substitute Carl Wainwright scored the match winner for Carew in the second half as he struck the ball well to score from a corner by Paul Bullock.

Carew had the edge in the second half, but failed to take advantage of other goal scoring opportunities.

When play moved to the other end of the field, Ian Kerrison again showed his agility to prevent the visitors from scoring.

Skipper Daryl John and centre back Martin Scourfield both played a major part in Carew's win to secure a place in the fourth round.

Merlin's Bridge 10 Manorbier United 2

Manorbier were slow to get out of the box on the day and the Bridge were six goals up after just 12 minutes.

The gulf in class between the two teams was too much to bridge and for the visitors it was a backs to the wall job, especially in the first half.

However, Phil Christopher did score for Manorbier, who had conceded nine goals by the interval.

For the Bridge, both Simon Thomas and Carl Mason scored two goals and the other first half goals were scored by Simon Gilderdale, Nathan Thomas, Peter Jones, Brett Shakir and Peter Thomas.

Starting the second half well in arrears, it would have been quite easy for Manorbier to throw in the towel. However, the visitors improved their performance and held the Bridge to just one goal, which Peter Thomas scored with a header to claim his second of the match.

Paul Maytum scored the second half goal for the visitors after being put through by Robert Izzard.

Division One

St. Ishmaels 5 Narberth 0

Narberth made the long journey to St. Ishmaels for a match which was rescheduled as a league fixture having originally been listed as a third round tie in the Senior Cup.

The visitors held their own in the first half, but conceded a goal just before the interval when Steffan Harteveld scored for Tish.

Early in the second half, Adam Davies extended the lead for Tish and then Harteveld picked up his second goal in the match.

The Bluebirds had a bit of an off day and made a number of mistakes. Tish removed any doubt about the eventual outcome with two goals in the last five minutes of the match.

Steffan Harteveld completed his hat-trick and Andrew Howells also got his name on the score sheet.

Camrose 2 Tenby 0

Tenby did well to hold the league leaders to just two goals which were scored by Marcus Taylor and Adi Smith.

Saundersfoot Sports 2 Pennar Robins 1

Saundersfoot played well and deserved to have the edge in this mid-table battle. However, the Robins created four or five chances in the first 15 minutes, but failed to score until Mike Canton took advantage of a defensive error to put the visitors in front.

Steve Davies equalised for Sports after 20 minutes and following the goals Saundersfoot started to get into their rhythm.

The Robins had a young side who were very quick, but Saundersfoot were able to soak up the pressure.

In the second half, Saundersfoot dictated the game and the Pennar players dropped their heads. Simon Cole put Sports in front after Daniel Caine had crossed the ball following a run down the right. Although the initial shot was half cleared, Cole was able to side-foot the ball across the line.

The Robins came back and created four more scoring opportunities, each of which was cleared by Saundersfoot defenders, and for the last quarter-of-an-hour Saundersfoot were in complete control.

Steve Davies and Jason Bridges were a lively pair up front. Simon Brace swept cleanly and on the left flank, fullback Phil Jones and midfielder Darren Umanee had an excellent rapport.

Division Two

Pembroke Boro 4 Pendine 0

The Seagulls were on the backfoot after Boro found the back of the net three times in the first half. Gary John scored twice, supported by a goal from Jason Beynon.

However, the Seagulls stuck at their task and only conceded one goal in the second half when Jason Beynon picked up his second goal of the match.

The big difference between the two teams was that Boro took their chances whereas the Seagulls did enough to stay in the game, but lacked the finishing power.

For the visitors, Darren Rees and Justin Blewitt worked tirelessly in midfield.

Clarbeston Road 1 Kilgetty 5

Kilgetty were on top for most of the match and took advantage of the fact that Clarbie were reduced to 10 men in the first half after a player received his marching orders.

There were nine bookings altogether in this match and Clarbie were reduced to nine men two minutes from the end.

The visitors took the lead with a goal by Adam Thorne before Mathew Freeman equalised for Clarbeston Road.

However, a penalty by Mike Beynon before half-time put the visitors in front.

In the second half, Kilgetty did most of the attacking, with both Adam Thorne and Mike Beynon adding to their goals scored in the first half.

Tommy James increased the lead for the visitors before Grant James made it five.

Grant James and Dean Rossiter exuded class in midfield, while the back four of Darren Taylor, Duane Reynolds, Luke Reynolds and Simon Wood provided the springboard for many of the Kilgetty attacks.

Hubberston 4 Lawrenny 0

Hubberston played the pitch better than Lawrenny who missed five golden one-on-one goal-scoring opportunities throughout the match.

Jason Thomas put Hubberston in front with 10 minutes of the first half left after Lawrenny had created enough chances to go into the lead.

In the second half, it was the same story with poor finishing letting the visitors down. Hubberston took their chances and added three more goals through Jason Thomas, Jeff Evans and Greg MacIntosh.

St. Clears 2 Letterston 5

St. Clears held their own in the first half despite having three players sent off. Player-manager Craig Weston left the field after 20 minutes and he was followed by Steve Trevitt and Diean Glynn before half-time.

The Saints continued to give a plucky performance, but the visitors took the lead in the second half with goals by Gareth Mathias and Stewart Lamb.

Sam Thomas reduced the deficit, before Lamb picked up his second goal of the match and then Andrew Walters kept the Saints in the game when he scored.

However, eight against 11 proved too much for the Saints, who eventually conceded five goals in total when Gareth Mathias completed his hat-trick.

Division Three

Templeton 0

Broad Haven 2

The visitors came at Templeton early on, but the home team weathered the storm and play became quite even.

When the referee awarded a penalty, it appeared that Templeton might have a chance to take a first half lead, but as Wayne Scourfield wallked to the penalty spot the decision was altered following a discussion with the linesman and a corner was awarded instead.

Early on in the second half, Jim Nutting gave the visitors the lead and his goal was followed up by a strike by Tom Watkins.

The much-improved Broad Haven team could have picked up a third, but Templeton goalkeeper Jason Oatley saved a penalty. Oatley makes a habit of saving penalties and last season saved seven out of seven.

Three red cards were awarded during the second half. Templeton's Jamie Bradfield left the field after disputing a decision with the referee and was quickly followed by player-manager Nigel Thomas, who had earlier played in the match but received his red card when he was running the line.

Later in the game, Templeton's Scott Pallas suffered the same fate and a Broad Haven player was sent off at the same time.

St. Florence United

v Angle

This fixture was postponed as a mark of respect for the family of Manorbier footballer Jeremy Phillips who lost his life in tragic circumstances while on his honeymoon in New Zealand, as reported in last week's Observer.

Reserve Division One

Saundersfoot Sports 5 Johnston 3

The Saundersfoot players were hungry for action following their impressive performance against Hundleton the previous week.

Sports attacked from the start and it was no surprise that Damien Keight gave them the lead after 10 minutes.

Sports scored again from the restart as Johnston were denied possession and the move ended with Robert Jones extending the lead for Saundersfoot.

Having taken the lead with two goals, the Saundersfoot players sat back and paid the penalty when Johnston attacked, displaying good footballing skills. Mark Sture clawed a goal back for the visitors and with five minutes of the first half remaining, Sture equalised when Johnston were awarded a penalty.

In the second half, Saundersfoot picked themselves up and dominated most of the play. Gary Cunningham scored twice with spot-on finishing after a couple of great runs. Cunningham came close to scoring a hat-trick. However, when the goalkeeper parried his shot, Barry Phillips was in support to claim the fifth goal for Sports.

In the closing stages, Saundersfoot were reduced to 10 players when Gareth Jones received the red card and when Johnston attacked again a deflection from the head of Paul Thomas gave the visitors an own goal.

This was an excellent performance by the Saundersfoot team who played well as a unit.

Tenby 5 Herbrandston 2

In the opening stages, Tenby had most of the play, although Justin Goffin gave Herbie the lead against the run of play with a header from a corner.

Herbrandston had a chance to extend the lead, but a penalty by Goffin was off target.

Young Jack Christopher equalised for Tenby and scored again with a terrific shot from the edge of the box. His goal was followed with a goal by Liam Robson to give Tenby the cushion of a two goals advantage at the interval.

In the early stages of the second half, Tenby continued to be on top and Stewart McLaren scored with a cross-cum-shot and then Perry Broadhurst weaved his way into the box to score Tenby's fifth goal.

The visitors kept coming back at Tenby and exerted pressure. Their willpower was rewarded when Steven Lund scored when he was the first to get to a 50-50 ball.

However, Tenby held out for a deserved win following a good team performance, with Stewart McLaren having a steadying influence at left-back.

Kilgetty 1

Goodwick United 7

Kilgetty's topsy turvy season in Reserve Division One continued with a heavy defeat at home to Goodwick United.

With so many changes in the side each week, it is difficult for players to build up an understanding with one another and on Saturday the defeat was caused by naive defending and the failure to finish when chances were created.

In the first half, Goodwick scored goals by Michael Griffiths, Steve Lewis and Daniel Williams, although Gareth Nock managed to score in reply for Kilgetty.

In the second half, the visitors added four more goals, with three being scored by striker Daniel Williams and the other by Ricky Bowen.

Anthony Bevan came closest to scoring for Kilgetty and had two shots which hit the posts and another which hit the bar.

Carew 2 Narberth 2

In retrospect, the draw was probably accepted by both teams as a fair result in a game where Carew were on top during most of the first half and the Bluebirds dominated the last 30 minutes.

Carew started extremely well in a typically fast and furious derby match and were on top for the first 20 minutes.

Narberth came back into the game and Nigel Thomas almost scored with a good header, but was denied a goal following a terrific save by Mathew Phillips.

Carew came back and Mathew Birch had a good effort, before Carl Wainwright scored for Carew when he was fed by Ceri Bradley. Wainwright twisted and turned and put a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

At the start of the second half, Ceri Bradley extended the Carew lead when he was in position to take advantage of a defensive error.

With 25 minutes of the match remaining, the Bluebirds were awarded a penalty when Peter Phillips was brought down in the box and the star striker scored himself from the spot.

The Bluebirds continued to attack and following good work down the flank by Simon Evans and Nigel Williams, the ball came across to Nigel Thomas, who headed it into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

It was an excellent game, with good team performances from both sides and not too many chances being created because of solid defence.

Mathew Phillips was the Carew hero with some great saves and Nigel Thomas was impressive up front for the visitors.

Reserve Division Two

Lawrenny 0

Milford Athletic 2

Although Lawrenny have struggled in Reserve Division Two this season, the players raised their game against the Division Two pace-setters and the visitors were only able to score one goal in each half.

Anderson gave the Athletic the lead with a goal midway through the first half and the Athletic 'keeper pulled off a tremendous save to prevent Wayne James equalising from the penalty spot for Lawrenny.

After five minutes of the second half, Anderson scored again for the visitors who were then kept at bay following some tight-knit defensive work.

Ian Jenkins was solid at the back and David Cole, who usually plays out, proved an admirable deputy goalkeeper on the day.

Pendine 2 Camrose 9

The Seagulls are still without a win in Reserve Division Two and crashed at home to promotion hungry Camrose on Saturday. Tony Griffiths scored four goals for the visitors, Stuart Phillips had a hat-trick and there was a goal apiece for Mike Williams and Dafydd Williams.

Lee Waters and Robert Thomas were the players on target for Pendine.

Fishguard Sports 0

St. Clears 1

The Sports team enjoyed the advantage of the slope during the first half and pressed from the start. However, the Saints mounted the odd attack up the slope and the back three of Robert Phillips, Mel Lewis and Andrew McCabe withstood everything thrown at them by the Sports team. They were supported by some quality 'keeping by Simon Bancroft.

Early in the second half, Jonathon Pearson scored for the Saints when St. Clears pushed forward and he was able to go round the Fishguard goalkeeper and put the ball into the empty net.

All of the players continued to give one hundred per cent in a committed team performance, with Marcus Leefe and James Carnell both being a tower of strength in midfield.

Manorbier United 1 Pembroke Boro 4

Manorbier suffered their eighth consecutive defeat of the season in Saturday's match at home to Pembroke Boro who are snapping at the heels of the league leaders.

On the day, Manorbier were outscored by a margin of four goals to one.
