Tony Wall and Ben James of Tenby and Saundersfoot First Responders were at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea for the Welsh Ambulance Staff Awards 2018 on Thursday. The evening, which was a black-tie event and included a three-course meal, was hosted by Welsh News presenter Sian Lloyd in front of a packed audience.

Having been shortlisted for an award in a field that the judges described as extremely difficult to choose from, the Tenby CFRs came out on top and were presented with the Dr. Jennifer Bucknell Community First Responder Award. The award is in recognition not only of the 999 calls they attend, but also for the work done within the community such as placing defibrillators and training the public in CPR.

Speaking after receiving the award, Team Co-ordinator Tony Wall said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have received this national award in recognition of the hard work the team have put in over the past year. There are a lot of bigger CFR teams doing some great things in Wales, so the fact that our relatively small team has won, makes it even more special. The coming year promises to be our busiest yet. We’ll continue adding to the more than 30 public access defibrillators (PADS) we’ve already placed in the local area and we’ll also be receiving several new items of equipment, meaning we’ll be able to respond to an even greater range of incidents that ever before alongside the Welsh Ambulance Service. We’d like to thank our sponsors for their continued support”.
