At 6.20 pm on Wednesday, a 999 call was received in the Operations Room of Milford Haven Coastguard from a lady living in Manorbier. She stated she had just received a mobile 'phone call from her boyfriend who was on a 37-foot yacht, the Red Five, with one other person off Santander, Northern Spain. There was no wind and the engine had broken down. It was established the yacht was in no immediate danger. All the details were taken and passed to Falmouth Coastguard, the UK coastguard station for all emergency actions throughout the world. From Falmouth, the respective Spanish Coastguards were alerted and the rescue commenced.
