PRIMARY school teacher, Matthew James, ran his first marathon last September by taking part in the Barnardos Powerhouse Marathon in Cardiff. Matt is pictured handing over the proceeds of his sponsorship totalling £475 to Mrs. Sylvia Davies, chairman of the Pembroke and District Committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Matt and teaching colleagues from Tenby, Nalda Wainwright and Tom Cox, who ran in aid of the Pembrokeshire Deaf Society, started training together about 10 weeks before the event, but Matt completed his training on his own after moving to Somerset to take up a new teaching post near Street.

The friends enjoyed the experience, although it was an extremely hot day, and are hoping to take part in another marathon in the future to benefit more local charities.
