A private discussion between an American Embassy official and local Plaid AM Nerys Evans was the subject of a WikiLeaks story last week.

The WikiLeaks story revealed details of a discussion regarding the political situation in Wales and the West Wales AM did express her surprise that this particular conversation was leaked through the famous website.

"I was shocked to find out that a private discussion I'd had with an American Embassy official months ago was the subject of a WikiLeak story this week," she said. "I've been following the Wikileaks story since it broke a few months ago with interest and it is surprising to find that a conversation I'd had with an Embassy official regarding the political situation in Wales was mentioned in a cable, which was leaked, and is now on Wikileaks.

"The whole WikiLeaks story has been very interesting and informative, and it does raise some serious questions about what you believe to be a private conversation at the time. The stated main purpose of WikiLeaks of course is to expose oppressive regimes and help people all over the world who wish to reveal unethical behaviour in their country. So far I don't believe that WikiLeaks has revealed any information that has damaged foreign relations or international policy, but we await to see what is disclosed in future weeks and months."
