The medieval Llawhaden Castle hosted a number of special guests recently as Cadw representatives, including director Marilyn Lewis, met with The High Sheriff of Dyfed for 2006-7, Dr. Ann Rhys, as she came towards the end of the her period of 'shrievalty'. The event was a formal visit to the castle by the High Sheriff accompanied by her husband Dr. Gwyn Rhys, Freeholder of Llawhaden Castle and Lord of the Manor of Llawhaden, to meet with Cadw's director and to receive a guided tour from Dr. Kate Roberts, Cadw's regional inspector of ancient monuments. Llawhaden Castle is a fortified palace of the bishops of St. Davids, first created as a ringwork in the 12th century and totally rebuilt mainly in the 14th century. Dr. Ann and Dr. Gwyn Rhys live in Ceredigion, just a few miles away from another one of Cadw's monuments, Strata Florida.
