Llandovery brought a strong side to Narberth and the Drovers were rewarded with an emphatic win on a bright sunny afternoon.
Narberth are in the process of developing a young Athletic side, featuring many recently promoted Youth players.
The game was fast and open and appreciated by the spectators.
The first try was scored by Aled Jenkins following a fast open movement of the ball. The next two came from a Narberth charged down kick, scored by Ken Hughes, and a sloppy mistake which allowed the Llandovery scrum-half to pick up the ball and run in a soft try.
During this period, the Narberth team were playing good rugby, but the ball was not going to hand and with the loss of the scrum-half and outside-half through injury, the Athletic were put under more pressure.
Hooker Gethin Beynon stepped into the breach to take over the scrum-half duties and introduced more aggression at the base of the rucks and mauls.
On the verge of half-time, Narberth produced a fine try, scored by new Natal under 21 signing, flanker Thabini Sangwani, in the far corner of the field. Gareth Flynn produced a tremendous kick to convert the try
In the second half, the visitors produced more good rugby to run in further tries. Glyn Jones scored two, supplemented by one from Arwel Davies.
Four of the tries were converted by Kelvin Davies, who also kicked a penalty.
The Athletic are a young side and produced positive aggressive rugby at times and there is a plenty of potential for the coaches to work on.
Lock Jason Jennings was nominated man-of-the-match by the Narberth team management.
