In glorious autumn sunshine, the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions Club recently held its annual sponsored horse ride at Lydstep point-to-point course.
Prior to setting off on their ride, riders and their mounts were judged for best turned-out combinations in pony and horse classes, which is always a difficult task with such a high standard of entrants.
A special vote of thanks must go to Eddie Morse and Gronow from St. Clears for all their invaluable help in setting up the course and helping with the marshalling on the day, along with members of RAYNET who, with their shortwave radios, kept everyone informed of progress out on the course at all times.
Thanks also to Phil Deacon, of St. Johns Ambulance, who were in attendance on the day, to Fiona Griffiths and Jan Parsons for all their help with the entrants and judging, and special thanks must also go to all the farmers on whose land this event took place and who have always been so supportive in the Lions Club's efforts.
Winners of the various classes were as follows:
Best turned out horse and rider - 1. Kim Coleman, Tenby; 2. Brenda Scourfield, Cresselly.
Best turned out pony and rider - 1. Rosie Rees, St. Florence; 2. Taryn Williams, Summerhill.
Highest sponsored rider - Taryn Williams, Summerhill; 2. Helen Bissett, Cosheston.
President John Griffiths and members of the Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions Club would like to thank all those who took part in this event and look forward to seeing everyone next year and welcome all new riders who would like to take part.
Record sponsorship this year was raised and will go to local Lions charities and those less fortunate than ourselves.
