Ysgol Gyfun Preseli, Crymych, was the setting for the recent Zone 1 Final of The Rotary District 1150 Young Musician competition.
There were 10 competitors representing schools from Aberystwyth in the north to Milford Haven in the south west.
Unusually, on this occasion, the participants, having already come through a local qualifying process, were each playing a different instrument and the audience were entertained by a very varied programme of music to a high standard.
The eventual winner was violinist Lily Whitehurst, aged 14, a pupil of Greenhill School, Tenby, who received the Grant Llewellyn Salver from Rotary Assistant Governor Tony Park.
Mr. Park commended all the participants and accompanists for the high standard of the competition, together with appreciation of the contribution of teachers and not least parents in the development of the musicians.
The adjudicators were Tim Bourne, Rhiannon Lewis, and Claire Jones, harpist to the Prince of Wales and herself a former pupil of Ysgol Gyfun Preseli.
Lily will now represent the Rotary Club of Tenby at the district final to be held in the Weston Room, the Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on May 9.
