Campaigners for a skateboard park in Tenby were given a huge boost this week, with a set of plans revealed and a possible site proposed.

Clr. Mike Evans and Jon Mills, of Tenby Cycles and Skateboards, who are spearheading the campaign, recently met with Emma Heard from the community regeneration department and a representative from Hags Play Ltd., who have drafted a design plan for the park.

A site meeting was carried out on an area at the Salterns and after discussions between all parties, the next step will be to get the area designated by Pembrokeshire County Council and make sure that it meets the needs of everyone involved.

"Everything appears to be in place now for this to hopefully take off, as the youth of Tenby have been waiting long enough now for something positive on this front to happen," said Clr. Evans.

"At a meeting next Wednesday at the De Valence, at 7 pm, we will reveal the possible plans for the park that have been drawn up and discuss it with the kids who have formed the Skateboard Club.

"If the site is confirmed, then the next step will be to get the base level down for a chill-out area for the kids, with a view to gradually add ramps and the rest later on," explained Clr. Evans.

It's estimated that the first phase would cost around £18,000, but with the club able to receive funding which would be matched by Emma Heard's department, Clr. Evans believes this is more than possible.

"With fund-raising, publicity and ideas for different events, £18,000 is not an amount the club can't achieve to get this off the ground.

"Anyone with any ideas or who wishes to back the skate park, can get in contact with either myself or Jon at Tenby Cycles and we will be happy to take their ideas on board," commented Clr. Evans.

Anyone wishing to view the plans of the skate park can see them on display at Tenby Cycles and Skateboards and Clr. Evans believes the kids involved with the campaign will be delighted that real progress is being made.

"The tunnel has already been opened and now there is a light at the end of it, " he said.
