Eight people have recently taken part in a first aid course co-ordinated by the St. Johns Ambulance Priory in Wales.

The 10-week Lifesaver course was held at the Bloomfield Education Centre in Narberth, and saw participants learn a broad spectrum of first aid measures.

Following the success of this course, it is hoped that other similar events can be arranged in conjunction with Pembrokeshire County Council's Community Education scheme.

"These first aid skills can be undertaken by any member of the community to combat recognition and apply treatment to someone who has had a heart attack, learn the practice of the Breath of Life technique, how to deal with choking, wounds and bleeding, burns and scalds, fainting and shock, broken bones such as fractures and how to effectively call the emergency services," explained Darrel John, one of the course assessors.

"A first aid course is a must for every member of our community and we will be organising other courses in the near future, which we invite everyone to attend," he added.
