Pembrokeshire RNLI lifeguards, coastguard teams, paramedics and the police assisted a man who was badly injured after falling off his bike on Monday afternoon near Freshwater West.

The charity's lifeguards were alerted to the gentleman by a member of the public after he fell off his bike as he swerved to avoid a car on the coastal road. The cyclist had come off his bike 600m away from the RNLI Beach Lifeguard Unit; because of his location the lifeguards were first on scene to assist the gentleman.

The cyclist was treated for multiple injuries by the lifeguards as they waited for the paramedics to arrive.

The cyclist had collided with the roadside bank at high speed, which resulted in him being thrown forward off the bike and into the road.

The casualty was stabilised at the scene by the lifeguards and coastguard team and was then transported to Withybush General Hospital by the police helicopter.

Pembrokeshire lifeguards were kept busy throughout the bank holiday weekend as they rescued children who were blown out to sea in inflatable dinghies, responded to minor first aid incidents as well as reuniting missing children with their parents.
