A fishing vessel, which suffered a small fire when the engine earth cable shorted, was assisted by RNLI Angle's all weather lifeboat on Sunday afternoon at the entrance to the Milford Haven Waterway.

The Tamar class lifeboat Mark Mason was launched at 2.07 pm, at the request of Milford Haven Coastguard. The fire was out by the time the lifeboat launched, no structural damage had been suffered and the two persons on board were unharmed.

Eleven minutes later when the lifeboat arrived on the scene, the casualty had dropped her anchor and was not drifting. The anchor was raised and, at the request of the skipper, the fishing vessel was towed back to Dale by the lifeboat.

The casualty's mooring was well inside the busy moorings there, and her skipper suggested that she be put onto the outer pontoon and he would arrange his own transfer from there to her own mooring. Once she was secured alongside the pontoon, the lifeboat was released to return to her station, arriving there at 3.24 pm.

It was the second call out of the weekend for Angle's all weather lifeboat. In a night-time operation on Saturday, the lifeboat launched at 12.33 am to a person in a dinghy aground in the mud off the Martello Tower at Front Street, Pembroke Dock.

On arrival on scene the lifeboat's Y-boat was launched to assess the casualty, and was able to tow the dingy off. The person on board was transferred to the lifeboat and taken ashore at Hobbs Point, Pembroke Dock. The Y-boat took the dinghy to a secure berth at Neyland Marina.

Other units involved included HM Coastguard, Dyfed Powys Police, and the Isle of Inishmore ferry. She was berthing at the adjoining Irish Ferries terminal at the time and offered to assist using her rescue boat.

The lifeboat returned to her station at approximately 2.20 am.
