Tenby RNLI has wished the station’s mechanic Will Horton all the best, as he vacates the role, but stays on to retain a key position - as a lifeboat crew volunteer.
Will made the headlines three years ago, when he abandoned his preparations training for the Ironman Wales triathlon, and instead, raced down to the harbour when his pager went off, to help his fellow inshore lifeboat crew members to help rescue a couple and their dog, when their boat capsized in a swell off Box Bay near Stackpole, leaving the occupants in the water.
“Thank You, Will! After 6-and-a-half years of dedicated service, we say goodbye to our Station Mechanic, Will, as he moves on from being full-time at Tenby Lifeboat Station,” Tenby RNLI’s press officer and volunteer, Ben James shared.
“As a station we are pleased to announce Will is staying on as a volunteer, continuing to be part of the crew as a Deputy Mechanic and D-Class Helm.
“Will has been the steady hand behind the scenes, keeping both our lifeboats in top condition and ensuring we can launch safely, day or night, no matter the weather,” he added.
Lisa-Marie Viggers, Tenby RNLI Station Coxswain said: “On behalf of myself, the whole crew, and the Tenby community, thank you Will, for your continued hard work, professionalism, and friendship.

“You’ve made a lasting impact, with many lives saved and countless others assisted during your time, your legacy will carry on in every launch.
“Thank you for everything that you have brought to the role and for continuing to serve as a Volunteer, We’re lucky to have you on board.
“Wishing you all the very best for your next chapter, we look forward to seeing you down the station, continuing your service to the RNLI,” she added.
