Sir,
I was very disappointed to read the letter in the press from Russ and Ginny at Silent World, but also to read the letter from Mrs. Richards, parts of which are factually incorrect, because this council has never actually said that we do not want Silent World in the De Valence.
Russ and Ginny are aware that I have strongly supported their bid to open an aquarium at the De Valence and Clr. Williams also expressed her support when they made their presentation, which we as a council waited several months for them to prepare.
However, I appreciate that not all councillors were supportive when they finally made their presentation. We posed a number of questions, including whether Silent World would be given permission to pump water from North Beach. We have only received verbal responses to our questions following phone calls from the Town Clerk's office and we have been awaiting a more formal response.
We were told at the presentation that the Silent World backers were also looking at another site and, following a discussion I had with Russ, he indicated that this would probably be the preferred option for a number of reasons.
One observation that Mrs. Richards made in her letter was that the council only seem interested in plans that they want to see come to fruition. I can assure Mrs. Richards that we do not all agree around this table.
As far as Silent World is concerned, I hope Russ and Ginny are able to fulfil their ambition to create an even more successful attraction, wherever that may be. If Silent World backers have agreed to pursue alternative premises, it will be a great loss to Tenby, particularly as a wet weather attraction.
Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans,
Tenby.
