GREENHILL School, Tenby, sixth form student, Lee Mottram, is celebrating after winning the Rotary District 1150 (South Wales), Young Musician of the Year 2006 title, at the final held at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon.
Lee, who lives in Pembroke, transferred to Greenhill School some three years ago to further his musical education. He had previously won the Grant Llewellyn Salver on being victorious at the recent Zone 1 (Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion) area final, before his triumphant success, representing Zone 1 at the South Wales District Final.
Lee, who was the sponsored candidate of the Rotary Club of Tenby, excelled in both finals, and hopes to pursue further educational studies at a London musical college in September.
He is the third pupil from Pembrokeshire, and the second from Greenhill School, to scoop the coveted District 1150 trophy in five years. He follows in the footsteps of now former Greenhill student, Louise Haines, who won in 2002, and Jocelyn Freeman, of St. Davids, who was victorious in 2004.
Rotarian Bob Storey, the Rotary Club of Tenby's Young Musician liaison officer, said that everyone at the club was delighted with Lee's success.
"His victory, as well as being a great personal triumph, was also a fine reflection of the excellent music department at Greenhill School," he stated.
"As it is Pembrokeshire's third victory in five years, in a very keenly contested competition, it was also evidence of the overall high standard of music in Pembrokeshire."
