Sir,

How dare Clr. Sue Lane suggest culling our gulls; after all, they are part of what a seaside resort is all about.

Like some people, you don't find them staggering about on a Friday or Saturday night in a drunken stupor, using foul language. Their only crime is that they have become accustomed to the fast food that litters our streets and beaches, left about by careless people.

OK, they are prone to stealing the odd sandwich and ice cream; I myself have been a victim, but come on, are they entirely to blame? And it would help if the council provided us with stronger bin liners, instead of the cheap paper-thin ones they've provided us with to date.

Have we forgotten when we lost most of our seabirds to the disaster that was the Sea Empress. Perhaps another oil spill is the answer not.

As for builders being attacked, that's not new. My father was attacked while working on roofs many, many, years ago, his bald head being the target. Yet he always said he would like to (come back) as a gull. I would like to think he is up there having a laugh.

Leave our gulls alone, they were, after all, here before us.
