People with learning disabilities and those who care for them were invited to a special event in Haverfordwest earlier this month. Pembrokeshire County Council's learning disabilities team organised a Learning Disabilities Day at the Portfield Social Activity Centre to raise awareness of the issues across the county. Visitors were able to meet the people who provide the services and ask them questions. There were also a series of workshops on topics such as advocacy, community education, the role of the community nurse and communication styles - as well as displays and a raffle. Clr. Sian James, cabinet member for health and well-being, said the event - on January 25 -- was the first in what would be a series of similar days.

Pictured at the event with Clr. James and Clr. David Wildman, cabinet member for the elderly and infirm, are Lavinia France-Miller and Ceri Davies from Learning Pembrokeshire, with Rachel Rees and Joan Ward.
