Lawrenny's annual, informal, Sloe Gin Night was held at Lawrenny Sports and Social Club last Saturday.
There was a very good turnout of local people, most of whom came along with their entries. No wonder there was a shortage of local sloes on the bushes last autumn!
A new section was introduced last year, for 'Hedgerow Drinks and Country Wines'. This really took off this year, with many different recipes, such as damson gin, raspberry vodka, toffee vodka, rhubarb vodka and blackberry gin, to name a few!
Competition was fierce, with no secrets divulged, and after much intense tasting, the winner of the best sloe gin was Matt Nutt, with Sally Haynes second.
The country wines section was won by Sue Jenkins, with 'Nikki's mum' coming second.
Thanks were expressed to Garry Thomas, of Pembrokeshire Landscaping, who kindly supplied the prizes and to the Sports and Social Club for allowing the event to be held in their clubhouse. All proceeds went to the Sports and Social Club.
