Mention Girl Guides in Pembrokeshire and County Camps and there is one name that stands out - Wendy Barnett.
Wendy has been a Guider in Pembrokeshire for over 40 years and on Saturday, October 8, her hard work, enthusiasm for Guiding and dedication was rewarded at the Girlguiding Cymru Annual Review by being presented with a Laurel Award by the Girlguiding UK Chief Guide Gill Slocombe.
The Laurel Award is an Association Award in recognition of outstanding service to Guiding.
Wendy's service and loyalty to Guiding in all forms is exemplary and she is an integral part of Girlguiding Pembrokeshire.
An example and inspiration to all, she is not only a unit Guider in Milford Haven, but has also taken on appointments such as Outdoor Activities Adviser (not only for Pembrokeshire, but Wales too), Guiding Development and not forgetting District and Division Commissioner.
She is highly thought of by Guides and Leaders, both past and present, and her passion and enthusiasm is infectious.
She readily supports any who call on her for advice and guidance and the girls in her unit are always at the centre of her Guiding as she encourages them to grow and learn.
She holds the traditions of Guiding close whilst keeping up with all of the new developments in not only the Guiding world, but also the world in which the girls have to live.
It is well documented that Wendy has the most incredible way of finding and extracting the best in people, especially the teenage girls in her unit, who, without her help and support, may have taken on a very different path.
One former Guide said: "Without Wendy, goodness knows what would have happened to me, as she helped me get back onto the straight and narrow. She really helped me in my time of need and confusion, and the fact that she believed in me when many people didn't, helped me in so many ways."
All of Pembrokeshire Girlguding would like to congratulate Wendy on a well deserved award.
