There was a lot of laughter and a touch of glamour at the 48th Annual Luncheon of Soroptimists International Tenby and District held on October 5 at the Park Hotel, Tenby.
President Mary had invited Lembit Opik MP to speak as the annual conference of SIGBI is soon to be held in Belfast - where he went to school. The Tenby club were delighted when Lembit brought his partner, TV weather girl and star of 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here', Sian Lloyd with him.
Lembit delighted the guests with stories not only of Northern Ireland, but also anecdotes from his life and then comprehensively answered questions.
Guests had assembled from Soroptimists clubs across the Wales south region and SI Tenby's link club, Cheltenham, as well as representatives from local organisations, Tenby and District Rotary, Ladies Circle, Amroth Community Council and Tenby Lions. In addition, regional president for SI Wales south, Helen Murdoch, also attended with members of her family.
Sian and Lembit also then drew winners' names for a charity draw in aid of Cerebra - which helps brain injured children and their families - and Pembrokeshire Women in Mind; both the nominated president's charities for this year.
Prizes for the draw were generous in the least: a £60 clothing voucher donated by Boden Ltd. (won by Mavis Owen); a voucher for the spa at Celtic Haven donated by the Vox Group plc of Tenby (won by Margaret James); a DVD player donated by Western Power Distribution (won by Judy Brew) and golf umbrellas donated by Clerical Medical, Nuttalls plc and Spinout.
The draw raised almost £300 and Soroptimists International Tenby and District are grateful to all their sponsors for their generosity.
