Returning to league action, Whitland 1st XV travelled to play Llangennech on Saturday. Parc Friend has not been a happy hunting ground for the Borderers in recent years, but on this occasion they battled hard to deservedly claim the three points with a 28 to 19 victory. In the process, they outscored the home side by three tries to one. Llangennech's outside-half, Jonathan Griffiths, opened the scoring with a penalty after five minutes, before Whitland scored the first of their tries. Following a scrum on halfway, fly-half Aled Davies made a half break and fed fullback Lee Glanville, who made the hard yards with an angled run, before gaiving the try-scoring pass to the ever- present Phil Morgan. Aled Davies added the conversion points. Penalties were exchanged by Griffiths and Davies in 22nd and 32nd minutes, while Griffiths also added a drop goal in first-half injury time, to leave the half-time score 10-9 in favour of the Borderers. Two minutes into the second half, Aled Davies increased Whitland's lead with a well-taken penalty, but just three minutes later, Llangennech took the lead when fullback Steve Davies scored their only try of the match, which was converted by Griffiths. Whitland hit back immediately from the kick-off, with good work by replacement Will Davies and Lee Glanville, who put Dion Thomas over in the corner for his side's second try, which went unconverted. Again Griffiths and Davies exchanged penalties, which meant that Whitland's lead was only two points at 21-19. They finally wrapped things up late on, however. When Whitland were awarded a penalty in the closing stages, it was out of Davies's range, but instead he kicked deep to the corner. From the resulting lineout, second row Aled Evans climbed high to gain possession and was then driven over by the rest of the pack, to put the game out of the reach of the home side. Again Aled Davies added the extra two points. The match was well refereed by Leighton Hodges from Bridgend. Whitland have no game this weekend due to the autumn internationals. Team fielded: Lee Glanville, Dion Thomas, Gavin Morris (Will Davies), Gary Evans, Cristiaan Roets, Aled Davies, Andrew Jenkins, Gareth Williams (Alun Davies), Mark Jones, Andrew Morillo (Alan Phillips), Aled Evans, Graham Hartt, John Bowen, Phil Morgan, Randall Williams, capt. Whitland Wanderers
The Wanderers XV entertained a struggling Kidwelly side in the Poly Pipe Civils League at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn, on Saturday, and ran out easy 69-5 winners. They scored 11 tries in the process, with two each from fullback Ali Bowen and outside-half Wayne Morris and one apiece for winger Shane Morgan, centres Matthew Hughes and Anthony James, number eight Huw Devonald, flanker Stuart Phillips and second row men Tom Dinan and Alan Evans. Evans also converted his own try, while winger Ross Michael banged over six other conversions. Try scorer for Kidwelly was Matthew McMillan.
Whitland Youth
Whitland Youth played at home against Cardigan and after a hard fought match between two well- drilled sides, the young Borderers took the spoils by just one point, winning 20- 19. Whitland try scorers were fullback Daniel Newton, centre Alex Pickersgill and scrum-half Owain Davies, with Newton converting one and also kicking a penalty. Cardigan's points came through two tries by fullback Tim Morgan and one by second row Jason Davies, with Tom Taylor converting two.
