HAVERFORDWEST YOUTH 20 pts. WHITLAND 21
The Borderers snatched this thrilling cup final with a late try to give them victory by just one point. It was Haverfordwest who took an early lead, with fly-half Michael Jones converting a penalty after six minutes. Whitland hit back, though, and took the lead with a try from hooker Gavin Walsh, with winger James Stephenson increasing the lead soon after with a penalty kick. But it was the Blues who went into the break with the lead as prop Iwan Jones crossed for a try which was converted by fly-half Jones. In the second half, Haverfordwest fullback Matthew Johns extended his side's lead with an unconverted try, but after this score, the match began to swing back and forth, with Whitland hitting back with an unconverted try by winger Stephenson, and the Blues again regaining the lead with a try from winger Will Bowen to put them 20-16 in front. In a pulsating last few minutes, it was centre Alex Pickersgill who was the hero with his try sealing a magnificent cup triumph for the Borderers.
