In a heated encounter between these two Reserve Division Two local rivals, Saundersfoot battled back bravely to nick an important win in dramatic fashion. Pembroke Boro were seeking revenge for the defeat that Sports had inflicted on them earlier in the season and were determined to stamp their authority on the game from the start with a physical approach. The visitors took the lead midway through the first- half when an attack on the break saw the ball run to Steffan Stanford, who found himself in acres of space in the Saundersfoot penalty area and he tucked the ball away. Sports had created enough openings to grab a goal of their own, but just couldn't find the finishing touch. After the break, Saundersfoot came out determined not to tarnish their 100 per cent home record, and they started brightly, with striker Tom Spencer feeding Ross Gray, who fired over a cross to the back post, only for his fellow winger Grant Hardy to narrowly head over the bar. The game turned on its head, though, when a late vicious lunge by a Boro striker on Sports' keeper Richard Thomas left the shot stopper on the floor. Although it was a clear red card offence, the referee only showed the forward a yellow and the injustice of the incident sparked the home side into life. A quick reshuffle saw Thomas replaced in goal by centre half Scott Helmich, with Andrew 'Kitty' Davies brought on at the back. With 15 minutes to go, Sports found their deserved equaliser when left-back Paul 'Tiny' Thomas picked out forward Rob Colley with a long pass from just inside the Pembroke half and the in-form striker bagged himself another for the season. At 1-1, Sports had replacement goalie Helmich to thank for keeping the scores level as he pulled off a crucial save, turning an effort from the edge of the box around the post. Then as the game headed into injury time, Saundersfoot found a winner, when a pass from captain Paul Evans found Gray in the box and, although the winger's shot was pushed away by the Boro 'keeper, Hardy made himself the hero by following up and putting the ball in the net to send the home support wild. It was another great all-round team performance from Sports, who had to dig deep for this win, with Johnny Beynon and Paul Heywood bringing their experience into the back line, along with the reliable Thomas and Helmich, while Evans and Delan Umanee battled hard in midfield, and the more youthful Gray, Hardy, Colley and Spencer, as ever, caused plenty of problems for the opposition going forward. Match ball sponsor was the Village Wine Shop, Saundersfoot.
