An injury time try following a defensive error gave the Wanderers the win which has kept them on track for promotion from division one. Narberth were leading by two points at the start of injury time, but when a scrum was awarded near the Narberth posts, the pass from scrum-half Adrian Killa to substitute outside-half Scott Penney landed near his ankles. Unfortunately, Penney's attempts to grasp the ball failed and alert centre Mike Butler raced over to grab the ball and cross for his second try of the match, which was converted by fullback Mark Haywood. The Wanderers drew first blood after just two minutes following a good run by winger Huw Williams, which culminated in centre Mike Butler going over in the left corner for a try, which was converted from the touchline by Mark Haywood. The Wanderers soon added to their score with penalties in the seventh and 12th minutes kicked by Haywood. At this point, the Otters changed their tactics and the policy paid dividends as for the rest of the first half, the Narberth team retained most of the possession, despite playing against a strong wind. In injury time, the lead was reduced. Firstly winger Nick Jones did well to kick a penalty from the 10-metre line against the wind and then just before the half-time break outside-half Gareth James slotted over a penalty from the 22. At the start of the second half, Gareth James attempted to kick a penalty from the 10-metre line, but the ball sailed past the right upright. Within minutes, the Wanderers had struck back with a short-range penalty by Mark Haywood. The visitors were reduced to 14 players when scrum-half Andrew Cawley was sin-binned and the Otters took advantage of the extra man by securing a try from substitute flanker Lewis Wood after a series of attacks. The conversion by Gareth James took Narberth within three points of the visitors' total. After persisitent pressure, the Otters went into the lead for the first time during the match. Scrum-half Adrian Killa had been instrumental in setting up the attack with an incisive break from the halfway line. The ball was recycled a number of times and eventually Lewis Wood spotted a gap to cross halfway out on the right for an unconverted try. It looked as if Narberth were going to break their recent losing sequence, but the last ditch try by Mike Butler gave the visitors the spoils. Flanker Dafydd Bowen and winger Nick Jones were nominated as the men-of-the-match by the match sponsors, Celtic Inns and The Templeton Supporters. There were other good performances by Emori Katalau in the lineout and, although Adrian Killa was a little off colour with his passing from set-pieces, he was a constant thorn in the flesh of the visitors. Centre Andrew Bowen was in the thick of things throughout the match and was the catalyst for many of the Narberth attacks. As usual, fullback Sion Brace was safe under the high ball and counter-attacked at every opportunity, the locks won ample lineout ball and the back row combined well as a unit. Speaking after the match, Otters' captain Alan Phillips said: "After conceding 13 points in the first 12 minutes, we played all of the rugby for the next hour and it was really criminal to allow them to sneak in for a win at the end. "Unfortunately there was some sort of misunderstanding which resulted in the Wanderers scoring a try right at the death and they will travel back up the M4 with three points. We're absolutely gutted. However, that is sport. We have to pick ourselves up and go to Llangennech next Saturday aiming to get a win and the week after here at home against Whitland. "After finding ourselves 13 points down, we changed our game plan and stayed on our feet more. Flanker Anthony Corsey had caused us some problems initially on the floor and they had six or seven turnovers early on. When we stayed on our feet and drove it, we managed to take it up and hold on to possession. On reflection, that was the game we should have adopted from the start." The match ball sponsors were: Phillips and Morgan Butchers, of Crymych, Narberth Classic Motor Cycle Club, The Narberth RFC Former Players Association and K. P. Thomas and Son, of Templeton. Narberth fielded: Sion Brace, Tom Dennis, Steven Davies, Andrew Bowen, Nick Jones, Gareth James (Scott Penney), Adrian Killa, Barry Davies (Fifitipuku Falatau), Kevin Allen, Alan Phillips (capt.), Emori Katalau, Jason Jennings (David Ebsworth), Dafydd Bowen, Gary Denver (Lewis Wood) and Gareth Bennett.
Minute's Silence
Prior to the start of the match, there was a minute's silence as a mark of respect for former Narberth player and vice-president, Clr. Willie Davies, of Templeton, and for Mr. Vic Pye, the husband of a vice-president, Mrs. Sue Pye.
Presentation from Supporters' Club
During the half-time interval, supporters' club treasurer Geoff Morgan presented a cheque for £2,000 to rugby club chairman, John Williams. The money had been raised by the supporters' club during the regular match day raffles and the weekly meat draw.
