The ‘Best Local Pub Competition’ is approaching a major milestone, with nearly 1,000 nominations submitted by residents across Pembrokeshire celebrating their favourite local pubs. But hurry, as it’s last orders to nominate - as the deadline closes tomorrow!

The competition was set up last year by Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Member of the Senedd Samuel Kurtz to highlight the importance of local pubs and help support them during the quieter winter months.

Now in its second year, the initiative continues to showcase the vital role pubs play in bringing communities together.

The competition is sponsored by local business, Templeton Beer, Wine & Spirit Co., a well-known local supplier supporting hospitality businesses across the region.

Last year’s competition saw The Ivybush in Narberth crowned the inaugural winner after receiving strong support from the local community. The award recognised the pub’s welcoming atmosphere and its role as a hub for residents and visitors alike.

Speaking about the competition, Mr Kurtz said: “Local pubs are at the heart of our communities, providing places for people to meet, celebrate and support one another.

“I launched this competition last year to give something back to these fantastic businesses, particularly during the quieter months when trade can be more challenging.

“Without a doubt, changes to Business Rates have had a real impact on the sector, on top of rising costs in staffing and electricity, which are threatening the survival of many pubs and that’s why this competition is an important reminder about how much we value the role they play in our communities.

“It’s brilliant to see nearly 1,000 nominations with still a few days left before the competition closes on Friday, March 20.”

“Residents are invited to nominate pubs that stand out for their community spirit, great service and contribution to local life – giving them the chance to win a free barrel of standard beer and the title of the “Best Local Pub 2026.

“If you haven’t nominated your local yet – there is still time,” added Mr Kurtz.
