Sir,
Twenty years ago, the only regular events in the harbour area were two Spectaculars and New Year's Eve fireworks. Now, there are events - public and private - almost every weekend throughout the extended summer season. The harbour-area residents are not the only ones to be disturbed by the considerable noise coming from the harbour area at some of these events.
Last year, the (Pembrokeshire radio?) noise of the Ironman swim event began at 5.30 on the Sunday morning. The noise at North Cliff was deafening and the amplifiers on the beach so massive, it was impossible to stand next to them. This year, it began at 6.15 am.
Then there was the wedding that went on playing very, very loud music until 1.30 am, just a few weeks before. I knew people in the Maudlins heard that noise!
No-one wants to be 'spoil-sport' about events that please hundreds of locals and visitors, but some consideration ought to be given to those of us who have their private and peaceful lives disturbed week after week. And I can assure 'Christine' that large earplugs are not the answer!
Mrs. M. Neate,
North Cliff,
Tenby.
