Lamphey Walled Garden buzzed with activity as it opened to the public on Saturday and Sunday as part of the National?Gardens scheme.

The warm, dry weather was ideal for the event and the organisers were delighted with turnout. Most people were local; for many it was their first visit to the garden since its development seven years ago.

Through the event, hundreds of pounds were raised for the national garden scheme nursing charity’s and also for the bumblebee conservation trust.

Many visitors loved the 42 species of salvias that are all flowering and took the opportunity to buy one to take home from the wide selection grown in the walled garden. Other rare and unusual plants for sale were also popular; all of them grown without chemicals and in peat free compost so they are pollinator friendly.

The butterflies and bees were out in good numbers with the cosmos beds and lavender hedges literally buzzing!

The Long Meadow Bakery (Pembroke) served hot and cold drinks and a tempting selection of cakes and scones that were as delicious as they looked. There were also stalls selling craft items for charity.

Lamphey walled garden can be visited by arrangement most days by messaging via facebook. The next National Garden Scheme Open Days at Lamphey are on June 25 and 26 and September 3 and 4 2022.
