Sir, It is official that Welsh Assembly Labour has reneged on a key election pledge to provide free Home Care for disabled people. The sticking point is the apparent inability of the politicians to define the term 'disabled'! Should their word power be so limited, they should not have the effrontery to serve the electorate as delegates. Yet all is not lost! They plan an extensive consultation exercise to solve this vocabulary problem later this year. What a crass, puerile excuse for time wasting and frittering away desperately needed funding on pointless administration costs. If they require a speedy answer, any Collins dictionary will give them a comprehensive definition of 'disability', and should this not suffice, there exists an exhaustive list of synonyms in its addendum. The Labour Party is keenly aware that in future decades, an increasing percentage of older people will need care at home. Costs on the public purse will be considerable and perpetual. To minimise expenditure, last year's levy of payment for Home Care will go some way to balancing the books, but not sufficiently, so what next? Such is the smug confidence of politicians, that this time they play a game of roulette with public money, or rather spending it on the most disadvantaged section of society. Their wager is that refusal to pay for Home Care costs will be grudgingly accepted after an initial protest outcry, then in time, the extorting of this money will become the norm. This deliberate policy is corrupt, immoral and compassionless. Make no mistake about this.Voluntary sector groups throughout Wales should rally together in an united front of determined objection. It is obvious that the Labour Manifesto is built on shifting sands; provision for the future of the elderly and infirm has already been washed out on the incoming tide. Its effect has highlighted the grossest of irresponsibility, a stain impossible to remove. Over-reaction is not possible when assessing such a blunt Assembly directive. In the current climate, anything is possible. Once again those unable to defend themselves have been treated as carelessly as lambs to the slaughter. What a mockery of human relationships and interaction between those who govern and the 'little' people on the receiving end!! Voting in the Election? What a waste of time and effort
