As usual, the weather has played its part in the ladies' competitions in recent weeks, causing the cancellation of the first February event, a Yellow Ball round.

At the end of January, a Bogey with Bisques was played and the format obviously suited Mel Smith who, with judicious use of her handicap allowance, finished on +5, with Mary Lewis on +2 and Laura McQueen on +1.

The postponed Daily Mail Foursomes qualifying round was played the following week, with Rhian Walters and Jean Charnock qualifying ahead of Heather Morgan and Denise Edwards. Sadly, as reported last week, Rhian and Jean lost their first round match against Trefloyne and the Mail on Sunday team also failed to progress beyond the first round.

The February medal competition was won by Rhian Walters, who was in fine form with an excellent nett 67, while Heather Morgan was second on nett 78.

The following week, a Texas Scramble, always a popular, if long-winded, format, produced a win for Denise Edwards, Heather Morgan and Anita Davies on 71.4, with Pam Cole, Anne Wilks and Mel Smith on 74.4.

Another favourite competition is a Better Ball Three Ball where the competitors are drawn according to handicap - i.e. high, medium and low, and this time Helen Morgan, Julie Lovett and Gillian Roberts produced the winning score of 67, while Toni Lucas, Anne Wilks and Barbara Williams produced 64 and were second, on the back nine.

Social afternoon

For many years the ladies have run a social afternoon of whist and bingo to create the funds necessary for running the teams in various league matches.

In recent years, bridge as an optional game has been added and, on the first Wednesday in March, the lounge was full of eager competitors.

The prizes, raffle prizes and the tea are always provided by the members and the committee and other ladies all assist in making the afternoon run smoothly.

Newman Vincent ran the bridge and Gary and Julia helped with the tea and apparently all the visitors enjoyed their time in Tenby Golf Club and the committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make this a successful afternoon.
