Some years ago, the weather on Thursdays was assessed generally as worse than the rest of the week and this winter it seems still to be true. Most weeks only the toughest ladies play and many of these only complete a few holes.
The December LGU Medal was won by Rhian Walters, with Pam Cole second in the Silver Division and in the Bronze Division, Ann Wilks won from Rita Collins.
On January 1, a club three clubs and a putter competition was played and few competed.
On January 8, the poor weather meant the Daily Mail Qualifying competition was postponed and on January15 the Silver Division was won by Heather Morgan from Denise Edwards and no one competed in the Bronze Division.
A three clubs and a putter competition was played on January 22 and the winner was Anita Davies, with Mel Smith second and Pam Cole third.
Mondays have had marginally better weather and more Seniors have managed to play and on most weeks have actually enjoyed their golf. Each year, the Senior Ladies welcome the New Year with a luncheon and this was held on January 26, when 23 ladies enjoyed an excellent lunch organised by Mair Evans and provided by Julia, Mary and Gary.
The lunch was preceded by a 14-hole competition, which was won by Mary Rowell, Ann Marsden and Vera Davies, who were present at the lunch and were each presented with a potted cyclamen from Mair.
It was a happy occasion and the flowers added much to the rather dreary weather we have been enduring.
