A lack of funding could jeopardise plans to upgrade boat landing facilities at Tenby harbour.
At a recent meeting of Tenby Town Council, Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans, said that she had attended a meeting of the Tenby Harbour Users Association, at which Pembrokeshire County Council's projects manager, John Tuberville, was also in attendance.
During the meeting, it was discussed that match-funding was now being sought for a scheme to provide a low-water landing facility.
"It seems that the money is no longer immediately available to aid a scheme for a new permanent all tides landing facility in Tenby, so it may be down to the Harbour Users Association and the people of the town to find the funds," explained Clr. Mrs. Evans.
"It's very disappointing and it seems that the harbour users are left to look into ways of raising £375,000 that can be match funded by a Pembrokeshire County Council scheme," she added, before proposing that Mr. Tuberville be invited to meet with the council to discuss the matter.
Clr. Mike Evans said that the county council had given their full backing and support to the proposed low-water landing scheme, but that funding for capital projects was tight at the moment.
Honorary secretary of Tenby Sailing Club, Blake Shaw, said that any possible cost increase for harbour users in order to fund the project would not come into effect immediately, but would be collected over a period of a number years.
"There would be no up-front payment for users, nothing until the facility was operational," he said.
"It's early days yet for any scheme to be in place, but a new landing facility would be a great asset to the harbour, town and area. It would be available to everybody and could take four boats at a time.
"It would also give a great boost to Caldey Island, as the facility would mean that their boats wouldn't just be limited to four hours a day when there is a low tide," added Mr. Shaw.
