Despite very wet and windy weather, the Tenby and District branch of the Labour Party,turned out in good numbers for their November meeting at New Hedges Village Hall.

Chairman Tony Wales introduced the business agenda, particularly with news of the Hustings meeting at Bloomfield, Narberth, when the three candidates for the Labour Party leadership at the Welsh Assembly addressed a packed hall. Carwen Jones AM, Edwina Hart AM and Huw Lewis AM all outlined their policies and answered many questions.

As a result of the postal ballot held, it was announced on December 2 that Carwen Jones AM had been elected, and that he would succeed. First Minister Rhodri Morgan after his retirement in 2010.

The guest speaker at New Hedges was Joyce Watson AM. She distributed a well-written newsletter to members and spoke about the economy, the urgent use of available land for building social housing and the problem of bovine TB in Wales.

There was a lively debate with many questions.

Joyce Watson was thanked for her frequent attendance at local branch meetings and her constant help and support.

The events secretary outlines the future Christmas and New Year programme.

Tonight (Friday), the Carmarthen branch will hold a gourmet dinner, prepared by chef and member Marc Scaife, at Whitland Town Hall, Carmarthen, Whitland, St. Clears and Laugharne members will be joined by many local Tenby district members at this special occasion.

On Saturday morning, December 19, at St. Teilo's Church Hall, Tenby, the annual general meeting of the Tenby and District branch will be held. Nick Ainger MP will be in attendance and will draw the winning ticket for the bumper Christmas hampers, this year containing 20 seasonal items, donated by members. Tickets will still be on sale on December 19. All items must be handed in to Marjorie by Friday, December 18, tel. (01834) 842604.

The popular sherry and mince pie party will round off the meeting and warm members before launching forth on the town to do their Christmas shopping. All members and supporters are welcome to attend on December 19, when coffee will be served from 10.45 am.

On Friday, January 15, the constituency election year dinner will be held at the Fourcroft Hotel, Tenby. Choice of menus and cheques can be handed to Betty at the AGM or sent to her at the latest date of December 31. Paul Murphy, MP for Torfaen, is guest speaker at this special event.
