Kung Fu students in Pembrokeshire are looking to pack a punch to help fundraise for one of the county’s most beloved community venues.

12-times British Open Kung Fu champion Jason Crabtree along with nine of his students from the the Lau Gar school will be taking on a ‘100k punching challenge’ over the course of a week to raise funds for the Queens Hall in Narberth.

With the Queens Hall having to close its doors back in March, due to the pandemic, and with no live events in nearly six months, the venue like many others in Wales have lost a huge amount of income and are now seriously in need of help to keep going.

“I have been using The Queens Hall since 1991 first and foremost as a customer as I love live music, then from 1994 I started to teach Kung Fu there and still to this day,” said Jason who has organised the fundraiser, with the aim to reach a target of £5,000 to help with the ongoing costs of the Hall.

“I feel very passionate about the Queens Hall and in my opinion it’s the beating heart of the community in Pembrokeshire. It serves the community extremely well with its diversity not only in music but also the various classes that run from there.

“It’s always been my favourite venue to teach from - it oozes atmosphere from every floor board!”

“We will aim as a Kung Fu school to complete 100k punches! This will be a group effort and students will be encouraged to do this at home, at an indoor class (when permitted) or when they attend online classes,” continued Jason, who along with his fellow fundraisers will start the challenge on November 16.

A spokesperson for the Queens Hall said: “Jason has taught Kung Fu here at the Hall since 1991 and is part of the very fabric of the building.

“We are so completely impressed and thankful for all the effort the Kung Fu school are embarking on to help us in these very difficult times - we cannot express our gratitude enough!”
