Kilgetty finally played their semi-final at the third attempt, with the previous two being called off due to rain and snow.
After beating Kilgetty fairly convincingly in the league clash, Merlins Bridge started as clear favourites, but Kilgetty were determined to make sure that it would be no walkover and started the game in a positive mood.
In fact, it was Kilgetty who took the game to Merlins Bridge in the early stages and kept the pressure on for the opening 10 minutes.
After winning a corner on the right, the ball was whipped in by Luke Gregory to be met perfectly by the head of Ben Howells and finish with the ball nestling in the back of the Bridge's net - 1-0 to Kilgetty. Was there to be a shock on the cards?
This seemed to spur the Bridge into action and, although Johnny Wilson and Nathan Evans battled and competed for every ball in midfield, their opponents were starting to get to grips with the game and put some pressure on the Kilgetty back four.
Some excellent work by Ben Cole and Mike Smith in the middle of the Kilgetty defence managed to keep them to mostly long range efforts.
Unfortunately, a moment's hesitation let the Bridge striker get his toe to a loose ball and Kilgetty could only watch as it crawled into the net at the far post, but at 1-1 it was still all to play for.
With Garth Merriman at right-back and Jason Jones on the left both working hard to contain the Bridge threat down the flanks, it gave them little time to push on in support, but they did their defensive jobs well and grew in confidence as the game wore on.
With about five minutes to go to the break, a free-kick was played into the Kilgetty area and it was the striker who reacted quickest and again managed to poke the ball past Adam Hughes and into the back of the net to send them in leading 2-1 at half-time.
Kilgetty again started brightly after the break, with Curtis Harris putting himself about up front and Robbie Brookes continuing to work hard down the left wing, but clear chances were few and far between for both teams.
With 15 minutes of the half gone, Kilgetty rung the changes, with Jack Bevan and Adam Morgan coming on for Curtis and Nathan. The game ebbed and flowed with neither team looking like adding to their score.
As time ticked away, Kilgetty pushed hard in search of the equaliser, which left them wide open at the back at times, but Adam Morgan managed to deal with most situations comfortably. Only once did the Bridge manage to get through, only to find Adam Hughes in the Kilgetty goal the next obstacle; he pulled off an excellent one-handed save down to his left to keep Kilgetty in the game.
Kilgetty now threw everything forward in a desperate search for the equaliser, but a quick break by the Bridge saw them add a third with virtually the last kick of the game.
Although Kilgetty failed to make it to the final, they can be proud of the way they played and the effort that they put in.
Congratulations to Merlins Bridge and good luck for the final.
