KILGETTY U13s 5

MONKTON U13s 0

With a 2-1 win against Clarbeston Road already under their belts, Bobby Bevan's squad went looking for another three points at home to Monkton. Donning the new blue and yellow strip that was presented to them by Mr. Dilwyn Davies, of Dils DIY, the home side set about their business. Playing with a strong wind at their backs, it was important that they made a sound start.

Dilwyn's nephew, Adam Morgan, playing as sweeper at the back, provided plenty of huge up-field ball for the strikers to latch on to. It was one of these that started the movement for the first goal as Jack Bevan collected and fed Geraint Thomas on the right wing. Thomas weaved his way into Monkton territory and let livewire Josh Bevan loose to take the ball into the box and cleverly hit home for a well-taken goal.

The visitors were finding it increasingly difficult to consolidate any quality ball as the homesters dominated with some good football. Dan Colley swooped onto a through pass from his brother Rob and finished with style.

Rob Colley also made it onto the scoresheet with a lovely first time strike that gave the 'keeper no chance.

Goal of the game came from left winger Edward Merriman. Robert Whitfield sent him on his way down the left flank, Merriman skipped through one tackle, took the ball into the box and swerved the ball around the 'keeper for 4-0.

Apart from several missed opportunities after good build-up play, the only other notable action was Jack Bevan missing a penalty for Kilgetty, unthinkable! But as usual, his contribution was immense and with Adam Morgan at the back Bevan was able to control the midfield and push play forward.

The second-half was a different game as Kilgetty had to keep the ball on the ground to fight the strong wind. Sam Foster in goal made two fine saves to keep the score unchanged. Nathan Proctor had a good second-half, battling away at the back, and alongside him Paul Hodge turned defence into attack each time he made a tackle.

Bobby Bevan made three changes in the half as Louie Evans and the Powell twins, James and Oliver, came on, and each one of them saw plenty of the ball and made a good contribution.

The home side continued to make chances with some fine passing. Whitfield and Josh Bevan were unlucky not to score as they caused mayhem in the Monkton goalmouth.

The final goal of the match came after a good build-up from defence. Evans knocked the ball to Merriman who smacked it upfield to a waiting Dan Colley. He found Bevan in space just outside the box and his finish was top notch to put the match beyond the visitors.

Kilgetty fielded: Jack and Josh Bevan, Oliver and James Powell, Dan and Rob Colley, Nathan Proctor, Geraint Thomas, Edward Merriman, Paul Hodge, Sam Foster, Louie Evans, Robert Whitfield.
